国际韩礼德研究会2023线上年会

尊敬的先生/女士：

国际韩礼德研究会（International Association for Hallidayan Linguistics）由澳大利亚与中国学者于2019年5月27日在悉尼联合注册，属于非营利性法人社团。由著名语言学家、马德里康普顿斯大学Christian Matthiessen教授与北京大学资深教授胡壮麟先生担任名誉会长。至今为止，邀请中山大学丁建新教授担任会长，诺丁汉大学Derek Irwin教授、利兹大学Elizabetta Adami教授、麦考瑞大学Annabella Lukin教授、Emilia Djonov博士、塔斯马尼亚大学Vinh To博士等国际学者为副会长。国际韩礼德研究会的宗旨在于弘扬世界著名语言学家M.A.K.Halliday的系统功能语言学思想，推动后韩礼德时代系统功能语言学的国际交流，培养新一代功能语言学者。国际韩礼德研究会实施会员制。凡是参加学会举办的活动的学生与学者均自动吸纳为我会会员，颁发会员证书，并根据职称与意愿聘请担任学会副会长、常务理事、理事等职务。三年一聘，滚动管理。

国际韩礼德研究会2023年年会定于2023年10月14-15日线上举办。由中山大学语言研究所举办，广州南方学院外国语学院承办，国际期刊《东亚学术研究》、集刊《外国语言文学评论》协办。本次会议的主题是：韩礼德语言学的理论、应用与学术创新。本次会议拟邀请Derek Irwin教授（诺丁汉大学）、Elizabetta Adami教授（利兹大学）、Annabella Lukin教授（麦考瑞大学）、Emilia Djonov博士（麦考瑞大学）、Vinh To（塔斯马尼亚大学）博士、Mick O'Donnel 博士（马德里自治大学）、Anne McCabe博士(圣路易斯大学)、丁建新教授（中山大学）、田海龙教授（中国石油大学·北京/天津外国语大学）、杨雪燕教授（复旦大学）、杨敏教授（中国人民大学）、袁传有教授（广东外语外贸大学）、侯建波教授（西安外国语大学）、王峰教授（山东大学）等功能语言学学者做主旨发言。欢迎对韩礼德研究、功能语言学研究感兴趣的广大学生、学者参加这次线上会议。报名参会者根据学术研究方向与兴趣安排平行小组讨论或主旨发言。本次会议期间将举行理事会成员线上会议。

a

Derek Irwin

Derek is the Chair of the International Systemic Functional Linguistic Association, the Deputy President of the International Hallidayan Linguistics Association and the Director of the Language and Pedagogy Laboratory at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC), and serves as the Associate Dean of Education and Student Experience there. His recent work has focused on the movement of lexical items across languages, textual analysis of literary and dramatic texts, and approaches to literacy and language skills for post-secondary writers, particularly in terms of the grammatical resources employed in these activities. He is currently supervising PhD and EdD students working in Critical Discourse Analysis of political and literary texts, multimodal analysis in learning and in translation, discourse patterns in corpora of expert and learner texts in music, and critical thinking for the curriculum. He is one of the coordinators of arts activities at UNNC, working with a number of high schools and universities internationally on theatre and arts events, including training teachers on the use of drama in the EFL classroom. Derek spends his free time directing, acting, and writing fiction.

Dr Elisabetta Adami

Dr Elisabetta Adami is Associate Professor in Multimodal Communication at University of Leeds, specialized in social semiotic multimodal analysis. She is interested in how people use resources such as gestures, face expression, sounds, speech, images, writing and objects, to make meaning of the world, with others and in space. She looks at sign-and-meaning-making practices in place, in face-to-face interaction, and in digital environments, with a special attention to inter- cross- and transcultural communication.Dr Elisabetta Adami hold a PhD in English Studies and Linguistics at the University of Verona (Italy) and did a one-year Special Research Programme at the Institute of Education (UCL-London), with research on YouTube and mobile technologies. Before coming to Leeds, she worked as a tenured researcher at the University of Chieti-Pescara (2012-2015) and as a teaching fellow at the University of Verona (2009-2012). She was also part of an ESRC/NCRM-funded project on Methodologies for Multimodal and Narrative Analysis of UK Food Blogs (Institute of Education, UCL).Dr Elisabetta Adami is a co-founding editor of the journal Multimodality & Society, former editor of Visual Communication, and in the editorial board of the journals Visual Communication, Multimodal Communication and Kairos: Rhetoric, Technology and Pedagogy.

Annabella Lukin

Annabelle is Associate Professor of Linguistics, and Director of Research Training for the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University. Her research interests include the study of language in politics, media, healthcare and literature. In 2019 she published a War and its Ideologies: A Social-Semiotic Theory and Description, a book based on 15 years on research into how language legitimates some forms of violence while stigmatizing others. Annabelle is interested in contributing to a better public understanding about the nature and power of language. She has been interviewed on commercial and public radio, and has contributed a number of articles to The Conversation.

Emilia Djonov

Dr Emilia Djonov is a Senior Lecturer in Macquarie School of Education at Macquarie University. Emilia specializes in language and literacy in early childhood, multiliteracies, multimodal and critical discourse analysis, social semiotics, educational linguistics and multilingualism.Emilia’s research investigates multimodality, the use of different modes (language, visual design, gestures, 3D space and movement), media and technologies for communication and learning. This focus is at the heart of her contributions to critical multimodal discourse studies and research on young children’s multimodal literacy development, language learning and engagement with new technologies. Emilia is recognized for her theoretical and methodological innovation in extending and adapting social semiotic and systemic functional linguistic theory to the analysis of complex interactions, including those between children’s website design and navigation or between semiotic technologies (especially ubiquitous communication software) and their employment in various social practices (e.g. children’s interaction with e-games; PowerPoint-supported presentations; integration of websites and learning apps in classrooms).

Dr Vinh To

Dr Vinh To is a Senior Lecturer in English Curriculum and Pedagogy in the College of Arts, Law and Education (CALE) at the University of Tasmania (UTAS), Australia. Her research interests include Systemic Functional Linguistics, English/literacy/TESOL/languages education, online education and Asian literature. Dr To was awarded three University of Tasmania’s Teaching Merit Certificates (2016-2018) in recognition of her excellent teaching in blended learning or fully online courses in English and literacy education, a Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Commendation Letter (2017) for an outstanding English online course. She was also awarded a UTAS’ CALE Commendation for Research Innovation and Impact in 2020.

Dr Mick O'Donnell

Dr. Mick O'Donnell is a prominent researcher affiliated with the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. His research expertise encompasses text generation, sentence analysis, systemic formalism, and interactive structures. With a distinguished academic career and a profound commitment to advancing our understanding of linguistics, Dr. O'Donnell plays a pivotal role in pushing the boundaries of knowledge in these fields.

Anne McCabe

Anne McCabe teaches linguistics and academic writing in the English Department at Saint Louis University – Madrid Campus. She has published numerous book chapters and articles using a functional linguistics perspective applied to language development. She co-edited Language and Literacy: Functional Approaches and Advances in Language and Education.

CONSTITUTION 

 International Association for Hallidayan Linguistics

ARTICLE I: Purpose

The International Association for Hallidayan Linguistics (hereafter referred to as the Association) is a not-for-profit academic association initiated by a group of Australian and Chinese scholars in Sydney, Australia on 27 May 2019. The Association aims to carry forward and promote the invaluable legacy of systemic functional linguistics tradition left behind by the world-renown linguist Michael Halliday (1925-2018) via providing on-going academic support and assistance to its members in study and research. The Association is committed to upholding the highest standards for academic research and scholarship and to advancing collegiality, intellectual diversity, and freedom of inquiry.

ARTICLE II: Registration and Membership

The Association is an incorporated legal entity in Australia governed by the law, by-law and regulations of Australia. In line with the requirements of the Australian Government, the Association submits annual report and related documents for review by the governing agency of the Australian Government.

Membership system is implemented in the Association and is open to scholars of all disciplines world-wide who are at any stage of their careers. Interested individuals or organizations in various parts of the world are required to submit an application to the Association before becoming a full member of the Association upon approval by the Association.

Members of the Association must abide by the Constitution of the Association and take an active part in the academic as well as cultural events and activities organized by the Association.

ARTICLE III: The Association Committee

Section 1: Composition

The Association Committee (hereafter referred to as the Association Committee) is comprised of Honorary President, President, Deputy President(s), Secretary General, Executive Council Members and Council Members from different parts of the world. The Association Committee has the discretion to decide on the new members of the Association Committee and currently no limit is set on the maximum number of Association Committee members.

All members of the Association Committee shall actively participate in the events and activities organized by the Association. A Committee member who is absent from all such events and activities for a consecutive three years shall be deemed to be waiving his or her obligations and rights as a Committee Member and herein will be removed from the Association Committee but will remain as a full member of the Association.

Section 2: Meetings

All meetings of the Association Committee shall be convened by the President or by a member of the Association Committee whom the President designated. Advance notice of dates and venues of the meetings should be given to all Association Committee members.

Section 3: Quorum

A quorum for Association Committee meetings shall be four members. The Secretary General shall keep minutes of meetings and records of attendance.

Section 4: Powers 

The Association Committee is authorized to act on behalf of the members to formulate policies and procedures for the Association. It may accept proposals from Association Committee members, the general membership, the Executive Committee and decide on the course of actions.

Section 5: Indemnity

All officers of the Association shall be indemnified by the Association for any expenses incurred in executing their duties on behalf of, and on the direction of, the Association Committee.

ARTICLE IV: General Meetings

Section 1: Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of the Association shall be held each year. Advance notice in writing must be given to all member at least 10 days prior to the meeting.

 All members of the Association may submit motions for discussions at the AGM. Such motions must be received by the Secretary General not later than 7 days prior to the meeting.

Section 2: Special General Meeting

A Special General Meeting may be called by the committee or by requisition signed by not less than half of the full members of the Association, delivered to the Secretary General, who in turn must call such a meeting within two weeks from the date or receipt of such requisition. Only the matters stated in the requisition may be debated at the Special General Meeting, and details of the said business should be included in the notice of meeting sent to all members.

ARTICLE V：Financial Statement and Auditing

The account of the Association shall be closed for audit purposes on the 15 June in each year.

An independent accountant shall be appointed by the Association Committee to prepare or audit the annual summary of financial affairs (Form A12).

ARTICLE VI: Interpretation

The Association Committee shall have full power to decide any question for which no provision is made for in these rules, and shall be responsible for proposing the appropriate amendment at the earliest possible time.

ARTICLE VII: Dissolution

The Association may be dissolved only by the vote of not less than 60% present at a Special General Meeting called for that purpose. An audited financial report shall be presented at such a meeting. The dissolution will not be effected until assets are disposed of and liabilities discharged. In the event of insufficient funds to clear liabilities, the existing members shall contribute the deficiency, in equal shares.
