1.Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Headquarters Client Support Service (HQCSS), Division of Administration, New York, Department of Operational Support (DOS). The intern will report to the Senior Human Resources Officer and Human Resources Officers, DOS. Due to the current COVID-19 crisis, internship candidates should be prepared to telecommute from their current place of residence.
The internship is for 6 months depending on the needs of the office. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours). The intern's role will be to assist Human Resources Officers with the recruitment of various positions in the Department of Operational Support and other HQCSS administered offices.
The HQCSS also provides administrative support to the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict, the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence Against Children, the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Children and Armed Conflict, the Ethics Office, the Global Compact Office, the Human Security Unit, the Office of Administration of Justice, the Office of Information and Communications Technology, the Office of the United Nations Ombudsman and Mediation Services, the Office of Special Envoy for Haiti, the Office of Victims' Rights Advocate, the Office of Special Coordinator on Improving the United Nations Response to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, the United Nations Office for Partnerships, as well as to the liaison offices of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification in New York.
In line with the Secretary-General's management reform report effective 01 January 2019 DOS will focus on operations, services, transactions and surge support to entities in weak environments. It will service and support the entire Secretariat - at Headquarters, the regional commissions and offices away from Headquarters and in the field.
2.Responsibilities
Under the supervision and guidance of a Human Resources Officer, specific tasks may include:-Compliance review of recruitment request to align with UN staff regulations and rules.
- Review intern recruitment requests, provide information and guidance to offices and candidates, and assist with the on boarding incoming interns.
- Advise hiring managers and HQCSS staff on recruitment, eligibility and visa issues.
- Provide support to current HQCSS interns, including guidance and professional support as needed.
- Assist in the digitization and distribution of official documentation.
- Process and/or catalogue archival collections.
- Develop an inventory of documentation to be retained, recording them in the office databases and shared drives.
- Participate in record keeping improvement projects and make recommendations on data master.
- Evaluate adequacy of existing records management and reference tools.
- Provides statistics and runs reports related to the internship programme for the Department of Operational Support and all other Entities administered by the Department of Operational Support.
- Perform other related duties, as required.
3.Competencies

Planning & Organizing: -Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies-Identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required-Allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work-Foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning-Monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary-Uses time efficiently
4.Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a)Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,
(b)Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, including Excel. They should also have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and have demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Educational background or exposure to human resources, public administration or related issues is desirable.
5.Work Experience
Applicants to the United Nations Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
6.Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.7.Assessment

8.Special Notice
Duration of need: 6 months
In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship.

-Title of degree you are currently pursuing or the title of the degree you have obtained;

-List the IT skills and programmes that you are proficient in;

-Explain your interest in the United Nations Internship Programme
In your online Personal History Profile, be sure to include all past work experiences, IT skills and three references.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or not currently in the United States on a non-immigrant visa status will be required to obtain a G-4 visa. If already in the United States of America on another non-immigrant visa status other than G-4, interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and if required, employment authorization, allowing them to undertake the internship.
