ILO Internship Programme

ILO Internship Programme provides an opportunity for talented individuals to:

(a) increase understanding of relevant issues at the international level by involving them directly in the work of the Office and the application of ILO principles, programmes and strategies;

(b) gain practicalexperience with the ILO directly related to their field of study.

The internship programme is not intended to lead to a career in the ILO. There should be no expectation of further employment at the end of the internship.

It is highly recommended that you submit your application as soon as possible to avoid last minute technical issues or delays. Late applications will not be considered.

IMPORTANT:

Please only apply for an internship if you fulfil the following two criteria:

(1) You have no close relative serving in the ILO.

(2) This is your first internship with the ILO (only one internship is permitted).

Learning areas

• assist the Labour Market Researcher Coordinator in labour market and labour policy research

• collect information for the Labour Market Research Coordinator

• analyze data by applying basic statistical software, e.g. Excel, SPSS, etc.

• assist the Senior Communication Management Assistant in managing social media account on a regular basis

• produce infographic and multimedia products with software for communication purposes

• assist in setting up and recording (video) interviews/speeches when necessary

• conduct daily scan of major news on new development and policy announcement in labour and social policy area, select news of sufficient value, and distribute them to concerned colleagues on a regular basis

• categorize digital materials and upload to ILO’s digital inventory

• translate materials from English to Chinese and vice versa

• support to ILO activities and campaigns in China

Experience

Any previous experience in policy-oriented research would be a plus.

Knowledge and experience in labour policies, especially employment and skills development, would be desirable.

Experience of event organizing and good communication skills would be desirable.

Languages

Excellent command of English and of Mandarin Chinese

Competencies

Familiarity and interest in labour policies, especially employment and skills development in China

Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, as well as organizational skills and attention to detail;

Excellent Microsoft Office skills;

Strong grasp of social media (Weibo, Wechat official account and related applications) management;

Initiative and ability to work independently and as a team member

Selection process:

You will be directly contacted should an internship opportunity matchyour profile. If you have not been contacted within sixmonths after your application, you can consider that you havenot been selected.

If shortlisted, you may be contacted for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, e-mail, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.

Stipend:

As an internin the field, you will receive a monthly stipend (around CNY 8,700) from the ILO, unless you receive fundingthrough another institution (for example your university or a foundation). If you receive artial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive the appropriate stipendper month. Your travel to the duty station will be at your own expense.

Insurance:

Please note that the ILO does not take responsibility for any costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship. You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station.

The ILO does not charge any fee at any stage of the recruitment process whether at the application, interview, processing or training stage.
