2016年11月30日，中国文学艺术界联合会第十次全国代表大会、中国作家协会第九次全国代表大会开幕仪式上，习近平主席发表重要讲话。他指出，创作出具有鲜明民族特点和个性的优秀作品，要对博大精深的中华文化有深刻的理解，更要有高度的文化自信。

On Dec. 30, 2016, President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony of the 10th Congress of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the ninth Congress of the Chinese Writers Association. He delivered an keynote speech, pointing out that to create outstanding works with vivid national characteristics and unique personal style, one must have a profound understanding of Chinese culture and a high level of cultural confidence.

根据《中共中央关于全面深化改革若干重大问题的决定》，建设社会主义文化强国，增强国家文化软实力，发展中国特色社会主义文化。Accordign to the Decision on Major Issues Concerning Comprehensively Deepening Reforms, it is to build a culturally strong country, and increasing its cultural power is the root of China's cultural development.

to tell China's story in a good way

中国不乏生动的故事，关键要有讲好故事的能力；中国不乏史诗般的实践，关键要有创作史诗的雄心。Vivid stories are not in short supply in China, but the key is to tell them well; deeds of an epic scale are abundant, we just need the ambition to make epic works.

弘扬中华优秀传统文化

draw upon the fine traditional culture of the Chinese nation

构建中华优秀传统文化传承体系，实现传统文化创造性转化和创新性发展。广泛开展优秀传统文化普及活动并纳入国民教育，继承五四运动以来的革命文化传统。

We will establish systems for carrying on the fine cultural traditions of China and ensure that traditional culture is creatively adapted and developed.We will carry out extensive activities to popularize fine traditional culture and see its incorporation into national education, and we will see that the revolutionary culture established since the May 4th Movement is carried on.

双一流

Double First-class Initiative

《方案》提出，到2020年，若干所大学和一批学科进入世界一流行列，若干学科进入世界一流学科前列；到本世纪中叶，一流大学和一流学科的数量和实力进入世界前列，基本建成高等教育强国。

According to the Double First-class Initiative, by 2020, a number of universities and disciplines will be developed into world-class ones, and a number of disciplines will be in the leading position among world-class disciplines. By midcentury, the number and capability of first-class universities and disciplines will ranks among the best in the world, making China an international higher education power.
