4
* Proposals for papers and colloquia presenting data and theory in areas of basic research in Second Language Acquisition are invited.
* All presentations will be in English or Japanese.
* A 50-word summary and a 300-word abstract of the paper should be submitted online. https://pacslrf.wordpress.com
* Abstract submission DEADLINE: 15 April 2023
INDIVIDUAL PAPERS:
Papers are formal presentations on original knowledge contribution by one or more authors within a thirty-minute period (20 minutes plus 10 minutes for discussion). Paper presentations will be organized into sessions of 2-3 papers. Presenters within a session will be responsible for chairing the session together. The presenters may decide to co-chair the entire session together or otherwise coordinate who will chair each particular presentation within a session.
POSTERS:
Posters are for one-on-one discussion of research. Posters are especially effective for information that can be presented visually (e.g. charts, graphs, tables, diagrams). A block of time will be designated when presenters are available to discuss their posters. Prospective presenters are encouraged to consider posters because of the opportunity they provide for inclusion of more presenters and topics in the program and for extended discussion with other researchers. There will be two different poster sessions (on two different days). In order to foster interaction, all other sessions will be suspended during the poster session.
STUDENT WORKSHOP:
The student workshop is intended to serve as a platform for discussion of ongoing research within any aspect of second language research. Students are invited to submit an abstract for a 10-15-minute presentation. These sessions are not intended as opportunities to present research results, but to discuss future directions. Students whose abstracts are accepted will then be required to send their paper to a discussant (a senior researcher). The discussant will lead a 10-15-minute feedback/discussion session on their work.
COLLOQUIA:
Colloquia allow for extended discussion on a particular topic. They are presented in a block of 90 minutes. Colloquium organizers must designate the specific time block for the proposed colloquium. Because the purpose of this format is to foster dialogue among attendees, time should be allocated for extended audience discussion of the papers presented. Colloquium organizers serve as the liaison between participants in the colloquium and the program committee, and are therefore responsible for communication among these participants. To submit to a thematic colloquium, the colloquium organizer shall submit the whole proposal.

6. Presenters who know that they cannot attend the conference are asked to withdraw their proposals as soon as possible to give another presenter a place on the program. The author’s confirmation of attendance and presentation signifies that the author will present the paper on the day and time assigned by the conference program committee.
7. PacSLRF will not respond to or consider requests for a specific time slot.ON-LINE SUBMISSION ONLY!Important: Emailed, mailed, or faxed proposals will NOT be accepted.6
* Titles must be no more than 50 characters including spaces.
* Titles must be in English. Please capitalize the title using sentence case: e.g.: Submitting a presentation: Format like this.
* Prepare a summary (maximum of 50 words) and an abstract (maximum of 300 words). Following the steps below will help ensure your submission is received properly.
* If possible, use a word processor or text editor other than Microsoft Word to write your submission. Microsoft Word introduces various text encodings that cause compatibility issues with the online database, and may result in unwanted characters appearing in your submission.
* Plain text only: Don’t format your document with tabs, bold text, bullet marks or multiple line breaks between paragraphs. All formatting will be stripped when the document is submitted to the database and sent to the reading committee.
* Use straight quotes and apostrophes, not curly quotes (” ” are straight; “ ” are curly).
* Use a single space only after punctuation such as periods, not double spaces.
* Do not use all caps for your name. Enter your name with the first letter capitalized ONLY like this: Smith, Joe. Using uppercase or all capitals for your entire name looks unprofessional and creates extra work for the publications editors.
