题目:The relationship between teaching styles and NNPSERs' anxiety levels

1.  摘要

Research indicates that approximately 50% of foreign language learners experience some form of anxiety in the learning process, and that learning and teaching styles in particular are possible sources of language anxiety (LA). This article is based on a study designed to identify the relationship that exists between teaching styles and their varying effects on anxiety levels among non-native pre-service EFL teachers (NNPSETs). Teaching styles were identified according to the Grasha–Riechmann Teaching Style Survey (1996) while learner anxiety was measured through the Foreign Language Class Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) developed by Horwitz, Horwitz, and Cope (1986). Results suggest that certain teaching styles or style clusters seem to provoke more anxiety, especially when accompanied by other factors such as gender, grade point average and past performance. This article discusses the need for an increased awareness among teachers concerning LA and how particular teaching styles can either hinder or facilitate language learning.

2.What is the relationship between teaching styles and the NNPSETs level of anxiety in a TEFL preparation program?

3. Do FLA differences exist between NNPSET students of different genders, GPAs, and those who have repeated courses? If so, what kinds of differences?


4. Research method (研究方法)

本文采用量化研究与质化研究相结合的方法,以调查问卷和半结构化面试的形式进行调查研究,不仅克服了量化研究和质化研究各自的不足,而且从多角度进行深入分析,增强了研究的可信性。


5. Comment (读后感)

1. 该研究根据智利的英语学习现状,分析影响英语学习的一个重要因素即语言焦虑,就有实用性。并且受试者皆是在智利学习的非本土职前英语教师(NNPSET),具有针对性和扩展性。

2. 文章设计严谨,语言通俗易懂,非常具有可读性。但由于参与的教师人数有限而导致收集的教学风格非常受限,因此结论还不够全面。
