Ⅰ.语法填空


阅读下面材料,在空白处填入适当的内容(1个单词)或括号内单词的正确形式。

A man requested an old scholar to get rid of his son’s bad habits.The scholar took the boy for 1.     walk through a garden.Suddenly he stopped 2.    (ask) the boy to pull out a tiny plant growing there. 

The boy held the plant between his thumb and forefinger and pulled it out.The old man then asked him to pull out a slightly 3.    (big) plant.The boy pulled hard and the plant came out,roots and all.“Now pull out that one,”said the old man 4.    (point) to a bush.This time,the boy managed it but with great 5.    (difficult).

【答案及解析】

1.a 考查冠词。walk在此意为“散步”,作可数名词且表示泛指,故填a。

10.or/otherwise 考查连词。本句是“祈使句+or/otherwise+陈述句”结构。该结构中,“祈使句+or/otherwise”相当于一个否定意义的条件句。

【短篇故事类】

There once was a very honest shopkeeper whose day-to-day business was to provide goods for the local people.He would open his shop at 8:00 a.m.after having his breakfast and at 1:00 p.m.he would go for lunch.At 8:30 p.m.in the evening he closed his shop to complete his daily routine.

However,to get time for lunch was really difficult because nobody helped him at that time.Therefore,it was his daily practice that whoever was shopping at 1:00 p.m.would be asked to oversee the shop until he returned from lunch.Everything went smoothly.However,this system of having the new customer oversee the shop at lunchtime quickly became known to thieves out of the area.One day,a group of four thieves planned to steal from his shop while he was gone for lunch.One of them went at 1:00 p.m.to be the customer.The thief,pretending to be a customer,went in at 1:00 p.m.and started purchasing several items.As usual,the shopkeeper asked the thief to sit on the shopkeeper chair until he returned from lunch.

Then,the other three thieves quickly came in to steal as much as they could.They asked the pretended customer to help,but something had changed within him and he no longer wanted to participate in the stealing with his fellow thieves.He knew deeply in his heart that if he was given responsibility for the shop,he should not perform any dishonest acts during that time.His friends did not agree.As the now honest man tried to stop them,they resisted and a fight started.And at the same time the shopkeeper returned and asked why there was a fight in his shop.The now honest man explained the entire plan,including his experience of transformation and how that led to the fight.

The shopkeeper had been searching for an honest man who could take charge of the shop.The shopkeeper felt that he had found the right man,so after the other three thieves were arrested he gave the keys to the now honest man and departed for his journey into retired life.

3.C 细节理解题。根据文章第三段倒数第二、三句可知,当店主回到商店时,这四个人正在打架,所以答案为C项。

【语篇解读】
