Since October 1992, League Tables of British Universities have been published annually by The Times,The Independent and several other organizations.

自1992年10月以来，英国大学排行榜每一年都会由《泰晤士报》《独立报》，以其他的一些机构发布。

As increasing of the public's attention to the best universities in Britain,

随着公众对英国顶级大学的关注，

these league tables have become more and more popular over the past few years.

这些排行榜在过去的几年里变得越来越受欢迎。

The main aim of these rankings is to give information to the A-level students, as well as their parents.

这些排名的主要目的是为了给在英国中学高级水平考试中获得A等的学生和他们的家长提供信息。

Therefore, the ranking is not purely academically oriented.

因此，这些排名并不是仅仅以学术为导向的。

The factors used in assessing universities include not only the quality of research,

but other factors which are relevant to undergraduate students,

such as teaching quality, entry standards, drop out rates, student satisfaction, job prospect, and so on.

For instance, Academic Ranking of World Universities compiled by Shanghai Jiao Tong University,

which focuses mainly on the quantity of research output and the number of awards won by faculty and alumni.

它主要关注科研成果的数量和学校师生赢得的奖项。

Moreover, the British rankings published by different organizations are different from each other.

而且，不同机构发行的英国大学排行榜也存在细微的差别。
