Benin is a country in west Africa, it borders Nigeria to the east, Togo to the west, Niger to the north, Burkina Faso to the north west, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south.

贝宁是西非国家，东与尼日利亚接壤，西接多哥，北与尼日尔交界，西北与布基纳法索接壤，南与大西洋相连。

The National Flag 国旗

The national flag of Benin consists of a green vertical stripe on the left side and a yellow horizontal stripe on top of a red horizontal stripe on the right side of the flag. The colors are traditional Pan African colors, green represents hope and revival, red stands for the courage of ancestors, and yellow represents the country's wealth.

贝宁国旗左侧是一条绿色垂直条纹，右侧上下分别为黄色和红色水平条纹。这些颜色是传统的泛非色，绿色代表希望和复兴，红色代表先辈的勇气，而黄色代表国家的财富。

Currency 货币

The official currency used in Benin is West African francs.

贝宁使用的官方货币是西非法郎。

The National Anthem 国歌

The national anthem of Benin is L'Aube Nouvelle meaning The Dawn of a New Day in English.

贝宁的国歌是 L'Aube Nouvelle 意思是“新的黎明”。

Population 人口

Benin had an estimated 2019 population of 11.8 million.

贝宁2019年人口估数是1180万。

The official language of Benin is French, other languages used in Benin are Fon, Adja, Yoruba, Nago, Bariba, etc

法语是贝宁的官方语言，其它语言有Fon, Adja, Yoruba, Nago, Bariba等等

Porto-Novo is the capital city of Benin, the seat of government is in Cotonou, Cotonou also serves as the economic capital of Benin.

波托诺沃是贝宁的首都，但是政府所在地是科托努，科托努也是贝宁的经济首都。

The city is one of the oldest cities in Benin. It still retains a very strong style of ancient African cities. There are many places of interest and historic sites. In this city, you can visit ancient African palaces, colonial buildings, presidential palaces, etc. Other attractions include the Ethnic Museum, Folklore Museum, National Library and so on. Handicrafts produced in the city and its adjacent areas, such as bronzes, wood carvings, bone carvings and other unique styles, are well-known at home and abroad.

这个城市是贝宁最古老的城市之一。它仍然保留着非洲古代城市的风格。这里有许多名胜古迹，你可以参观非洲古代宫殿、殖民时期建筑、总统府等。其它景点有民族博物馆、民俗博物馆、国家图书馆等。本市及其毗邻地区生产的青铜器、木雕、骨雕等独特风格的工艺品在国内外享有盛誉。

Cotonou 科托努

Cotonou is Benin's economic capital, administrative center, and the country's largest city. The city is the largest port in the country. It is also the political, economic, transportation and foreign trade center of Benin. The central organs of Benin and the diplomatic agencies of various countries in Benin are all located in Cotonou. In 1965, it was built into an artificial deep-water port, which is Benin's largest port. Cotonou has power, textile, cement, machinery, food, oil extraction, winemaking, and chemical industries, along with building materials and other enterprises.

科托努是贝宁的经济首都、行政中心，也是该国最大城市和最大的港口。它也是贝宁的政治、经济、交通和对外贸易中心。贝宁的中央机关和贝宁各国的外交机构都设在科托努。1965年，科托努建成了一个人工深水港，成为贝宁最大的港口。主要产业有电力、纺织、水泥、机械、食品、采油、酿酒、化工、建材等。

Cotonou is rich in tourism resources and has great potential for the development of tourism. Famous tourist destinations include Cotonou Cathedral, Friendship Stadium, Cotonou Central Mosque, Ancient Bridge, Big Market, etc.

科托努旅游资源丰富，旅游业发展潜力巨大。著名的旅游景点有科托努大教堂、友谊体育场、科托努中央清真寺、古桥、大市场等。

Ouidah  威达/维达

Ouidah is a city that has a mix of influence from the French and the Portuguese due to various events in history. The city is located about 40km away from Cotonou and in contrast, is more relaxed.

由于历史的原因，威达是一个同时受到法国和葡萄牙影响的城市。这座城市距离科托努约40公里，相比之下，这里生活节奏比较悠闲。

If you are interested in African history then this city should be top of your itinerary. It has fantastic museums exploring slavery and voodoo.

If all the history gets too much for you, there are more stunning beaches to laze on in Ouidah too.

Abomey 阿波美

Abomey was the capital of Ancient Dahomey for around 300 years starting in the 17th Century. The main attraction and reason for visiting the city is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Abomey Royal Palaces.

阿波美从十七世纪开始，做了古代达荷美300年的首都。阿波美的主要景点有联合国教科文组织的世界遗产之一阿波米皇宫遗址。

Although the palaces have largely been destroyed and are in a ruinous state, the site still has enormous historical value and the tales of kings that once resided here are fascinating.

虽然宫殿已基本被摧毁，但遗址仍然具有巨大的历史价值，曾经居住在这里的国王们的故事也很令人着迷。

Grand-Popo  大波波

The town of Grand-Popo has an intriguing history mainly due to the important role it played in the slave trade. It flourished during the slave trade but declined following the abolishment of the slave trade and the construction of the big port in Cotonou. Nowadays there is not much left to see but the town has amazing beaches.

大波波镇在历史上的奴隶贸易占有重要地位。它因奴隶贸易而蓬勃发展，但在奴隶贸易被禁止和科托努大港口建成后就衰落了。现在除了美丽的海滩，其它的没有了。

The town oozes with African charm and the people are friendly. It is about an hour drive from Cotonou and offers a perfect change of pace from the busy city. There are many backside hotels and resorts in the town and the beaches are a great place to relax and swim.

这个城镇充满了非洲的魅力，人民也很友好。从科托努开车大约一个小时，可以从繁忙的科托努来这里放轻松。这里还有很多酒店和度假村，海滩是放松和游泳的最好地方。

The nearby Mono River is a great place to walk and offers a chance to see mangroves and exotic bird life.

Natitingou 纳蒂廷古

Located a convenient 50km away from the Pendjari National Park, the city of Natitingou or Nati also has some of its own attractions that make it a worthy stop off on a tour of Benin.

The city of Natitingou, also Nati, is one of the best places to see the Somba people's way of life and methods of building. Natitingou is also a great place to see Shea butter being made.

Vodun 巫毒

Vodun means The Hidden or The Mystery, the word has adopted the spelling Voodoo in Haiti and Cuba. The practice conforms to the general pattern of West African religion, with a supreme god, Mawu.

Vodun（巫毒）的意思是“隐藏的”或“神秘的”，来源于海地和古巴的Voodoo。西非宗教模式一般都是如此，有一个至高无上的神，玛巫。

Traditional priests are consulted for their power to communicate with particular spirits. Communicationis achieved through spirit possessions and ritual that often involves a gift or "sacrifice" of palm wine, chickens or goats. The grace of the spirits is essential for protection and prosperity, and some spirits can be harnessed for malicious and selfish ends.

人们会去请求传统的牧师的帮助与特定的神灵沟通。这种交流是通过灵魂的占有和仪式来实现的，这通常要利用棕榈酒、鸡或山羊的礼物作为祭品。人们祈求神灵的慈悲保佑和兴旺，也有一些神灵则被用于达到恶意和个人的目的。

Voodoo was formally recognized as a religion by the government in February 1996. Since then, 10 January became Voodoo day. Those in Ouidah, voodoo's historic center, are among the best and most colorful, with endless singing, dancing, the beating of drums and drinking.

巫毒在1996年2月被政府正式确认为宗教。当年开始每1月10日都会举办巫毒日。在巫毒的历史中心瓦伊达一般会举办的最好和最丰富多彩，人们无休止的唱歌、跳舞、打鼓和喝酒。

Other important cultural traditions and festivals include Gelede dance, Ganifestival, and Egoun dance.

其他重要的文化传统和节日包括格利德舞、甘尼节和埃贡舞。

Benin–China Relationship

After China and Benin established bilateral relations, China founded a China Cultural Center in Benin where more than a hundred people study Chinese every year. Conferences and exhibitions on Chinese culture are also held in this center.

中国与贝宁建立关系后，在贝宁建立了中国文化中心，每年有一百多人在这里学习汉语。该中心还举办会议和中国文化展览。

China has aided Benin in a number of public projects such as a hospital in Lokossa, Cotonou Friendship Stadium, and a more recent 160 million RMB grant for construction of an overpass in Cotonou as well as the construction of an Economy and Trade Development Center. In 2018, President Patrice Talon approved China to develop a railway linking Cotonou with Niamey which costs approximately 28 billion RMB.
