The 6th International Workshop on Statistical Physics and Mathematics for Complex Systems (SPMCS 2020) held at Huaqiao University, Xiamen, China, January 14-18, 2020. SPMCS has begun in Le Mans (France) in 2008, and then has been held in Wuhan (China) in 2010, Kazan (Russia) in 2012, Yichang (China) in 2014, and Wuhan (China) in 2017. The primary aim of this workshop series is to offer a forum to the researchers of complex systems science for having discussions and exchanging ideas and information about the latest developments in the relevant fields.
Topics to be covered but not limited to:• Statistical Physics and Thermodynamics of Complex Systems• Mathematical Modeling of Complex Systems• Nonlinear Dynamical Systems• Network Approach to Biological, Sociological, Economic and Technological Problems• Classical/Quantum Information Thermodynamics• Optimization Methods in Systems Science

报告摘要



We present in the first part a study of the ranking of databases according to their popularity. A Zipf's law is discovered as expected. In the second part, we develop a mathematical tool for the derivation of Zipf's law, in a generic manner, from the consideration of the principle of least effort. This principle can be implemented via variational calculus by considering a functional related to the notion of effort, with a functional form defined following postulates coming from properties of certain thermodynamic systems. This is to our knowledge the first mathematical implementation of the principle of least effort and shows that the Zipf's law is a ubiquitous ranking rule for a large number of systems in which the dynamics of the population mimics certain ensembles of specific thermodynamic systems.



个人简介



Qiuping-Alexandre Wang is a professor at ESIEA-Paris. From 2007 to 2015, he was a professor at Institut Supérieur des Matériaux et Mécanique Avancés. He used to be a professor at French School of High Studies in Engineering, Université du Maine. His skills and expertise includs condensed matter physics, thermodynamics, spectroscopy etc.
