习主席进博会开幕致辞，路透社的翻译有什么不一样？

昨天上午，习主席在进博会的开幕式上发表了主旨演讲。演讲结束后不久，CGTN发表了演讲的英文译文。

外媒也非常关注这次演讲和进博会。路透社发表了一篇题为《Chinese President Xi says need to bring down trade barriers》的报道，其中有5处直接引用了习主席的讲话。

这篇报道有时原封不动地引用CGTN或中国日报双语新闻发布的译文，有时在不改变意思的情况下，对译文略作改动。接下来，我们来看一下这5句话的不同译文。

原文：世界经济发展面临的难题，没有哪一个国家能独自解决。

CGTN：Of the problems confronting the world economy, none can be resolved by a single country alone.

路透：There is no single country that can resolve by itself the difficulties facing the development of the world’s economy.

CGTN的译文用了两个比较短的分句，感觉比路透的长句更加简洁和容易理解。

原文：坚持“拉手”而不是“松手”，坚持“拆墙”而不是“筑墙”，坚决反对保护主义、单边主义，不断削减贸易壁垒，推动全球价值链、供应链更加完善，共同培育市场需求。

CGTN：We need to join hands with each other instead of letting go of each other’s hands. We need to tear down walls, not to erect walls. We need to stand firm against protectionism and unilateralism. We need to continually bring down trade barriers, optimise global value and supply chains and jointly foster market demand.

路透直接引用了CGTN的译文。这段译文非常地道、传神，看来路透也觉得没有改动的必要了。

这里有很多值得学习的表述，如拉手-join hands，松手-let go of each other’s hands，拆墙-tear down walls，筑墙-erect walls，坚决反对-stand firm against，削减贸易壁垒-bring down trade barriers。

原文：我们是一个守信的国家，我们说出来的话都是要算数的。

中国日报双语新闻：We do honor our commitment, and we will deliver on what we have promised.

路透：This shows that we do honour our commitments and we will deliver on what we have promised.

CGTN的译文中，没有上面这句话，这里列出的是从中国日报双语新闻找到的译文。

在这句话的翻译中，路透将commitment一词从单数改成了复数，这么改是不是有道理呢？根据柯林斯词典，作不可数名称时，commitment表示信奉。

作可数名词时，commitment表示投身的事或者承诺。原文“说出来的话”应该是承诺的意思。承诺应该不止一个，所以感觉用复数commitments似乎更合适。

deliver在表示实现，履行时，可以及物或者不及物。不过，在表示实现诺言时，deliver是不及物的，要用deliver on的搭配。

中国将张开双臂，为各国提供更多市场机遇、投资机遇、增长机遇，实现共同发展。

CGTN：China will reach out its arms and offer countries in the world more opportunities of market, investment and growth. Together, we can achieve development for all.

路透：China will throw open its arms, and provide more market opportunities, investment opportunities and growth opportunities for countries in the world, so we can share the growth together.

reach out its arms和throw open its arms都是很地道的说法，表示张开双臂。

CGTN的译文可能为了避免重复，opportunities出现了一次，比出现三次opportunities的路透译文更加简洁。不过，在opportunities of market中，作为可数名词的market单独出现，感觉似乎不太合适。

原文：中国将增强国内消费对经济发展的基础性作用，积极建设更加活跃的国内市场，为中国经济发展提供支撑，为世界经济增长扩大空间。

CGTN：China will better leverage the fundamental role of domestic consumption in economic development and foster a more robust domestic market to boost growth at home and create more room for global growth.

路透：China will better leverage the fundamental role of consumption, actively construct a more proactive domestic market to help provide support for Chinese economic development and expand the global economic growth.

说到“国内消费”，我的第一反应和CGTN的译文一样，也是翻成domestic consumption，然而路透省略了domestic一词，直接翻成consumption，这样更加简洁，而且也不会引起误解。回想一下之前看过的关于中国的英语演讲或访谈，感觉很多国外的演讲人也是直接说consumption。

路透的这段译文将in economic development也省略了，感觉似乎步子迈得太大了，省略得有点多了。此外，路透似乎是在字对字地翻译这句话，有点Chinglish的感觉。

以上简要地比较了一下两种译文。站在巨人的肩膀上，点评别人的译文，比自己做翻译要容易多了。中西方的文化历史和思维方式有着巨大差异，讲好中国故事，让外国人听得懂，真的很不容易。让我们一起努力吧！
