H&M's China sales plunge 28% 

H&M's sales in the Chinese market have suffered as a result of its rejection of Xinjiang-produced cotton, according to the Swedish fashion retailer's latest quarterly disclosure.
Its sales in China, one of its top 10 markets, plummeted 28 percent in Swedish krona terms in the second quarter from the year before, per the quarterly results.
While second quarter sales surged in the U.S. they declined in China
The number of stores in the Chinese market totaled 489 as of May 31. Over the second quarter, its net new store numbers shrank by 13 in the market. 

The disappointing readings are seen as undercutting optimism in the outlook for the fashion giant despite a surge of 75 percent year-on-year in its global net sales in local currencies in the second quarter. 

H&M's ill-grounded refusal to use Xinjiang cotton over human rights abuses earlier this year has subjected the brand to a widespread consumer boycott, which has seen Chinese consumers strike back at a handful of foreign clothing brands banning Xinjiang-sourced cotton.

China, Ukraine agree to strengthen infrastructure cooperation and consider visa-free regime

China and Ukraine have agreed to boost cooperation on infrastructure projects, days after Kiev withdrew from a joint call for Beijing to give the UN human rights chief access to its Xinjiang region.

Kiev faces a challenge as it tries to balance its relations with Beijing and the West – it needs Chinese investment and access to its market but relies on the United States as its biggest military aid donor and is seeking to join Nato and the European Union, analysts said.


China’s commerce ministry on Sunday said companies and financial institutions from the two countries would be encouraged to work together on road, bridge and railway projects. It said the agreement signed between Beijing and Kiev on June 30 would promote closer economic ties between the nations and provide the help and support needed for joint projects.


There has been more cooperation between China and Ukraine on infrastructure, military, technology and science in recent years, according to analysts, and in December they agreed to deepen ties under Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative.


In June, Ukraine was considering canceling its visa requirement for tourists from several countries, including China, in order to attract more visitors once lockdowns imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic are eased. The new visa-free regime will apply if the tourist’s stay in Ukraine does not exceed 90 days.

据乌克兰媒体记者报道，中国驻乌克兰大使范先功在中乌战略伙伴关系十周年新闻发布会上表示。
“尊敬的总统签署了一项命令，授予我们的公民（临时）免签证制度。他希望我们国家的公民尽可能舒适地相互旅行。这是一个非常好的主意，所以现在我们正在积极争取签署中乌互免签证政府间协议，”范先功说。
这位外交官还预测，由于免签制度，中国赴乌克兰旅游人数将增加。

China develops 71 vaccines and all are reportedly effective against Delta variant

China is researching and developing 71 vaccines against COVID-19 and they are effective against the Delta strain, China's top epidemiologist Zhong Nanshan revealed over the weekend, making China the country with the largest number of vaccines undergoing research, experts said.
Nine of the 71 vaccines have already been put into use. Two were granted World Health Organization (WHO) emergency use, Zhong said as he addressed the graduation ceremony at the Shanghai Tech University on Saturday. The WHO approved COVID-19 vaccines produced by China's Sinovac and Sinopharm for emergency use, reports said.

China's inactivated vaccines are effective in reducing the rate of infection and severe symptoms, and they are also effective against the Delta strain, he noted. 

Zhong shared Guangzhou's experience with handling the recent flare-up that lasted more than 20 days. If Guangzhou had failed to control the virus, one epidemic model shows that it would have resulted in more than 7.3 million people getting infected within just 20 days, he said. 

Given the fast transmission speed of Delta mutant strain, Guangzhou expanded the check scope of "close contacts" from the previous "same family, same office and same restaurant" to include people who live in the same space or building. 


By using mobile phone location functions and public surveillance cameras, they were able to track down the close contacts of confirmed COVID-19 patients or those who had stayed in dangerous venues for more than one hour within a 250-meter radius. They were given "yellow" QR health codes and asked to take a nucleic acid test within 24 hours, according to Zhong.

Speaking of the opening of borders, Zhong said as long as the epidemic in one place is not completely under control, the world is still at stake. We need the joint effort of the whole world to fully control the pandemic.

他表示，中国的全病毒灭活疫苗，对感染、肺炎、重症的保护率都是有效的，所以放心注射国产疫苗，对德尔塔变异株都有效。
他在现场谈了对中国新冠防控策略和疫苗研发的体会。他介绍，目前中国有71个（疫苗）正在研发，9个已经可以用了，其中有两个被列入世界卫生组织紧急使用清单。
