To Pay for Teachers, Kindergartens Are Switching to Selling…

GiC Team GICexpat 2020-08-23

Affected by the epidemic, many kindergartens across the country have not yet decided when to reopen.

The head of a kindergarten in Jinan, a city in eastern China's Shandong province, has unexpectedly decided to temporarily switch his focus from education to opening up a barbecue joint in order to pay teachers' salaries for the month of May.

The good news is that

their barbecue business...

is booming!

Luckily for them, teachers won’t have to worry about “just getting by” for a while.

"It's getting hot now, and the barbecue stands are open,” he said. “Our kindergarten has space and a catering service permit. Staff also have health certificates, and desks, chairs and benches are not lacking, so they can use the kindergarten site to cook some delicious BBQ food and increase their income."

As far the parents are concerned, they can come to eat while still letting their kids play around, so they’re quite satisfied with this temporary change!

You might think that this is a random idea, but it seems to have caught on considering the increasing temperatures leading up to the summer, as another kindergarten in Baoding, Hebei province, also jumped on the barbecue wagon to help pay for their teachers.

“Even if their income is a bit less than their usual salary, it’s something to get by and support our teachers,” the principal of this kindergarten shared with journalists reporting on this story.

In the face of a strong impact from the COVID-19 pandemic still felt across the country, principals and teachers are showing their strong will to fight and innovate in times of need.

Netizens have praised their efforts for “not giving up and thinking of other ways to get through it! Well done!”
