In the recent couple of years or so, the art scene in Tianjin has been undergoing a palpable re-emergence of sorts with several art galleries, museums and exhibition spaces emerging or sprucing themselves up, and a battery of talented curators taking charge and helping local and international artists of Tianjin to showcase their exquisitely crafted art pieces, be it paintings, drawings, sculpture or photographs. As a result of this, admirers of art in Tianjin and surrounding areas, be it art lovers or art connoisseurs, are enjoying the splendid displays of original and uninhibited styles of art in beautiful art spaces sprinkled in and around Tianjin.

The most recent exhibition to make a splash in Tianjin has been that of the locally well- known and beloved young international artist Gurmehar Singh or Gurm as she is fondly referred to. Her exhibition “Colors - The Reflections of Life” showcases more than 80 of her stunning artworks and was inaugurated on October 30, 2021 at the beautiful and expansive Creativo Art Space in the Wuqing District of Tianjin. This exhibition, deftly organized by Tianjin Plus and curated by Aaron Eagles, will stay on until Nov 30 with exciting activities planned on weekends.

The Opening Reception was a well-attended event and several artists, media persons, supporters and visitors were present. Gurm who is also now popularly known as “The Queen of Color” impressed all present with her confident bi-lingual introduction of her work and the thought process that goes behind it. She also led the attendees on a mini tour around the 80+ artworks displayed. The event was well attended, and the attendees enjoyed the lucky draw of 5 prizes consisting of a gift hamper each of Gurm’s art merchandise and also enthusiastically participated in the crown decoration activity based on the theme of “Queen of Color”.

“Colors - The Reflections of Life” encompasses the young artist’s body of work over a period of six years and in a variety of mediums and sizes, incorporating mesmerizing intricate patterns and bold strokes, whether in brilliant colors or in black and white. In her words, she says: 

"I think of myself as a world citizen and so my art is inspired from all cultures, stories and histories of the world. The inspiration for my work comes from anything and everything around me, from the ordinary things of life. I believe that art is in life and life is in art. Hence, the name: “Colors- The Reflections of Life”. I am fascinated by colors, lines, and shapes and experimenting with the multiple ways to combine them together. I also enjoy combining these patterns with the objects, animals and elements of nature that we interact with on a daily basis."
