A netizen shared an experience online where she said she paid 145 yuan for taking a taxi from Zhengzhou Railway Station to Zhengzhou East Railway Station. The post which was shared on October 6, quickly went viral as netizens couldn't believe how gullible she is.The distance between the two railway stations is about 18 kilometers, and netizens found that a taxi ride between them only costs around 30-40 yuan. Furthermore, they found that a high-speed train ride between the two stations takes about 15 minutes and costs a mere 5.5 yuan, while the more expensive bullet train would cost 30 yuan.In fact, all this information is available for free on many map applications in China. The student, Ms Shi, is a university freshman and said she was returning to school in Kaifeng from her hometown, Luoyang, after the National Day holiday. She said she could not buy a direct train ticket and so she bought a ticket that required her to transfer between the two railway stations in Zhengzhou."I took the taxi at the railway station's taxi waiting area and judging by its appearance, it is a normal taxi. The driver was a female who looked very friendly. We had a great conversation along the way." She said.Shi recalls that at one point, the driver proposed to take an overpass, arguing that the traffic jam was heavy on the normal road and it would take up to two hours to reach their destination if they didn't take the overpass. However, when they reached the destination, the driver claimed that there was a toll fee imposed for the use of the overpass. Furthermore, she told Shi that a taxi fee includes costs for her to drive back to the pickup point. In the end, Shi was asked to pay three various fees, i.e. a normal taxi fare, an overpass toll fee, and a return fee, totaling 145 yuan."I too thought it was a bit too expensive at the time, but I was in a hurry and I am shy, so I didn't think much about it," Shi said.It wasn't until she got on the high-speed train heading to her school that she realized something was amiss. Shi then asked local people from Zhengzhou and realized she was cheated."It's a lesson learned from not having enough social experience. I am so angry that I couldn't sleep well for the past few nights." Said Shi.She has decided to use all means available to find the taxi driver and get back what belongs to her. The first step for her, she said, would be to go to the Zhengzhou East Station police station to check the surveillance camera footage in the hope that she could get the taxi's license plate number. Then she will hand over the evidence to the transport regulatory authority. "I can't just lose my money like that. Deep within, I feel very uncomfortable." She concluded.12328, is a Traffic Service Supervision Hotline, when reporters called to inquire about Shi's case, the staff who picked up the phone said taxi drivers must use the taxi meter as the standard to charge for taxi fares, failure to do so is a violation of regulations. They added that if one encounters such violations during the ride, they can call 12328 and report the problem. The department will investigate and handle the case as soon as they receive the complaint.Reference: GlobalHeadlines
