1. still
1)From the early 1970s Amnesty International also distributed it, giving it a still wider reach.
2)The number of people killed in the coronavirus pandemic is likely to rise still higher.
3)The company is hoping to extend its market still further.
2. whatnot; what have you
1)pictures and books and manuscripts and whatnot
2)a shop full of baubles, trinkets, and what have you
3)It's an incredible amount of time and preparation and what have you.
3. for that matter
1)"Kyle doesn’t like young women, or any women for that matter."
Justin's note: The speaker says "Kyle doesn’t like young women" in a specific context, and after saying it, realizes that Kyle doesn't like any women. The second part of the statement is secondary and supplementary, derived from the first, a more direct and relevant observation/claim.
2)Ben never touched beer, or any kind of alcohol for that matter.
3)I don't like basketball, or any kind of sports for that matter (= I don't like basketball, and actually you know what, I don't like any sports at all).
4. if at all
1)They close at dawn, if at all (= They are unlikely to close, but if they do close when they absolutely have to, they close at dawn, not earlier).
2)If the language requirement is to be waived, what will be done, if at all, to ensure that incoming students have the right language skills to navigate through their academic life in Britain?
Justin's note: Given the situation so far, little would be done in response to the waiving of the language requirement, but if it does happen, what exactly would be the action?
3)The indoctrination of weiwen (维稳) can downplay the urgency, seriousness, and scale of social problems, rendering the society unready, unfit, and unable to deal with problems in a timely fashion, if at all (= Because of the idea of weiwen, the society is unlikely to be able to deal with problems; but if it still could deal with problems, it cannot do it in a timely fashion).
5. so to speak
1)"The audience, so to speak, was looking for something different".
Justin's note: The speaker uses "so to speak" as she is thinking out loud. She is looking for a specific way to describe or pinpoint the audience's request, and what she says is tentative and may not be entirely accurate or ideal.
2)It was White's wake-up call, so to speak (= White realized how important/serious the matter was = If it were not for what happened, White would have not realized how important/serious the matter was).
3)In that relationship it's very much Lorna who wears the trousers, so to speak (= Lorna makes all the important decisions).
