我们只做你想不到的


Studio Alpha 每月不定期推出国际设计竞赛或者由SA老师自命题的Open Project供同学们来充实自己的作品集。涉猎范围包含建筑、景观、城市设计。为了鼓励大家的互相协作,并提升学生的主观能动性,竞赛都以1-4人组队报名为单位。SA的竞赛或者Open Project 对于每个学生都可以公平报名申请,老师选拔合适的同学参与。历时从2周至6周不等,只针对SA学员,大多数在使用一对一课时兑换后即可免费参加。SA每年生源有40%来自老八校,15%来自欧美院校,45%来自国内重点大学。学员间自由组队,和志同道合、旗鼓相当的小伙伴们一起参与OP设计。


过去一年,SA为19Fall学员开设了41个Open Project。截至2019年8月29日,SA今年已经上线了38个专属20Fall学员的OPSA自4月24日起开始发布Open Project Plus (OP+),在OP+的设计讨论中邀请世界上最活跃的相关领域的前沿学者或工作者,顶尖的院校教职人员来进行Guest Critic,并与同学交流。SA OP系列是我们邀请相关设计领域的最优秀学者和从业者为给同学设计和作品集水平加分的专题小班课程,我们希望需要的同学都能找到最适合自己的OP,所以在每个OP开始前都会有个双向选择的过程,帮助我们控制OP队伍的构成以获得最佳产出。

BIOPHILIC URBANISM

课程介绍

While the world’s emerging cities are addressing explosions of population growth, infrastructural demands and resource pressures, the previously established and existing cities are undergoing similar pressures however at different rates. Cities throughout the US are adapting to shifting economies and competition of balancing life style with growth to attract populations and maintain significance. Additionally, as the environmental concerns of the world are made apparent, the urgency to protect and appreciate nature is considered as an attractive resource to couple with growth.


The term "biophilia" was first used by Erich Fromm to describe "the connections that human beings subconsciously seek with the rest of life.". The biophilia hypothesis suggests that, in spite of an ever increasingly urbanized world, humankind is undetachable from the natural environment, and that 5000 year-entities like cities can’t simply replace millions of years of intrinsic relation between man and nature.


According to the Biophilic Cities Project, founded by Dr.Tim Beatley (UVA), “biophilic cities value residents innate connection and access to nature through abundant opportunities to enjoy the multisensory aspects of nature by protecting and promoting nature within the city.”


Portland was included in the Biophilic Cities Network in March 2017.

PORTLAND: BIOPHILIC URBANISM

This cluster aims to dissect an internationally-recognized “biophilic city”, Portland, by analyzing why and how it reached such a status, and by trying to foresee its future challenges.


This cluster will focus on the city phenomena and how it can be affected by its proximity to nature. The complex reality of a city cannot be defined by just a handful of parameters, but rather by the interaction between many interconnected agents (us among them) and their relationship with their surroundings. Similarly, a biophilic city cannot be simply defined as a city with abundant green: it is necessary to understand how nature actually influences all the layers that conform the city: networks, infrastructure, program, economy, energy, climate, architecture, people...


Portland is unique in its relationship with nature in the sense that a very specific culture has emerged from it. This makes Portland a perfect opportunity to measure the tangible and intangible relationships that occur when a city and nature fuse into a holistic system. It is the intent of this workshop to track Portland’s relationship with nature throughout history, understand how the city has been able to maintain the balance between development and nature and propose interventions for new prototypes that align with these patterns. Through studying moments of infrastructure and open spaces, the final project will connect to mapped patterns and suggest a new typology at the architectural scale.

要求

- MID-ADVANCED LEVEL in Grasshopper 3D for Rhino. Students will be provided definitions and given tutorials without explanation of an introduction to grasshopper. We will cover components together, but the basic understanding should already be there of grasshopper and its interface.


- PROFICENCY IN INDESIGN. Students should be able to develop and work on their booklets for the final evaluation of this open project. A layout will be provided in which students should follow and use as their final collection of work.

老师介绍



Mary Polites

AA,MArch in Emergent Technologies


Mary is a project designer at PLACE Studio and also runs her own research practice MAPS. She has over ten years of experience predominantly with international offices such as Foster + Partners in New York, Venturi Scott Brown & Associates in Philadelphia, Martha Schwartz Partners in London and China and MUDI-Asia in Shanghai. Her background is in architecture with additional professional experience in urban and landscape design. Mary holds an M. Arch in Emergent Technologies from the Architectural Association in London. She has taught at Washington State University at the Pullman campus and Tongji University at the Design and Innovation College in Shanghai China. She is a current tutor for the Turenscape Academy in Huangshan, the AA Visiting School Xixinan and the AA Visiting School Shanghai.

Ignacio López Busón


Ignacio López Busón is an architect and landscape urbanist with international experience in award-winning sizeable projects across Europe, Asia and the USA. In 2014, he co-founded MAPS (Methods for the Architecture of Patterns and Systems), a teaching and design initiative with a focus on the complexity of social, economic and natural systems in urban and rural settings. MAPS’ work aims to articulate design solutions for a seamless human-nature integration at multiple scales, from architecture to urban design and territorial masterplanning. Ignacio’s research is centered on the intersection of environmental science and computational tools in contemporary urban challenges. He has lead courses and international workshops related to architectural and digital design, including teaching and guest critic positions at the London based Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA), the AA Visiting School Program (Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guatemala), Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), Tongji University in Shanghai, Turenscape Academy in Huangshan, and Portland State University (PSU) in the United States.
