On December 25, the 2022 national postgraduate admissions examination kicked off.

12月25日，2022年全国硕士研究生招生考试拉开帷幕。

More than four and a half million people across China applied for the National Postgraduate Entrance Exam, 800-thousand more than last year.

全国有超过450万人报名参加今年的研究生招生考试，比去年多了80万人。

The number of candidates has been rising for some time. In December 2016, 2.01 million people took the exam, the first time it had passed the two million threshold. And in 2019, that number passed the three million mark.

近年来，考研人数持续上升。2016年12月，全国共有201万人考研，考研人数首次突破200万。而在2019年，考研人数突破了300万大关。

"The Father" has won the best international film of China's 34th Golden Rooster Awards as the winners were announced Thursday evening in the city of Xiamen, east China's Fujian Province.

12月30日晚，第34届中国电影金鸡奖颁奖典礼在福建厦门举行。《困在时间里的父亲》获最佳外语片奖。

This is the first time for China's top film awards "Golden Rooster" to set the best international film award. Five foreign films competed for the award, namely "The Father," "Persischstunden," "Pinocchio," "Wolfwalkers" and "Happy Old Year."

这是金鸡奖作为中国顶尖电影奖首次设立最佳外语片奖项。本届共有五部外国影片角逐该奖项，分别为《困在时间里的父亲》《波斯语课》《皮诺曹》《狼行者》以及《就爱断舍离》。

Zhang Yimou walked away with the best director for the spy thriller "Cliff Walkers." The best feature film award went to the "Island Keeper".

朴槿惠获特赦出狱

Former South Korean President Park Geun-hye was set free under a presidential pardon on Friday after four years and nine months in jail after her impeachment and ouster from office for graft charges. This is according to Yonhap news agency.

据韩联社消息，12月31日，获得特赦的韩国前总统朴槿惠出狱，在被羁押4年零9个月后重获自由。此前，朴槿惠因涉嫌贪污被弹劾下台。

The 69-year-old Park has served a combined 22-year prison sentence since March 2017 after being impeached and removed from office over far-reaching corruption and an influence-peddling scandal involving a close friend accused of manipulating her.

朴槿惠现年69岁，2017年3月因陷入贪污受贿及“亲信干政”丑闻而遭弹劾，后被法院裁决判处有期徒刑22年。

Last week, President Moon Jae-in decided to pardon Park as part of his special amnesty for the new year. The government said the decision was made in consideration of her deteriorating health and as part of efforts to promote national unity.

上周，韩国总统文在寅公布特赦名单，决定赦免前总统朴槿惠。总统文在寅出于对全民和解的考虑作出了赦免朴槿惠的决定。朴槿惠的健康状况恶化也是重要决定因素之一。

“姐弟坠楼案”生父及女友被判死刑

The father and his lover from Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, who allegedly killed his two babies by throwing them off the 15th floor on November 2, 2020, and sparked fury among the Chinese public, have been sentenced to death for intentional homicide, the local intermediate people's court announced on Tuesday. 

12月28日，重庆市第五中级人民法院宣判，以故意杀人罪判处“重庆姐弟坠楼案”被告人张波、叶诚尘死刑。2020年11月2日，二人共谋将张波的两名年幼子女从15楼扔下，致子女死亡，激起了公愤。

"The court concluded that the defendants Zhang Bo and Ye Chengchen conspired to claim the lives of Zhang's two children by plotting an accidental fall, which resulted in their deaths. Their behaviors have both constituted intentional homicide," read the announcement. 

法院宣判，法院经审理后认为，被告人张波与被告人叶诚尘共谋，采取制造意外高坠方式，故意非法剥夺张波两名亲生未成年子女的生命，致二人死亡，张波、叶诚尘的行为均已构成故意杀人罪。

In the joint crime, Zhang, the father, actively participated in the conspiracy and committed the murder of his daughter and son. 

在共同犯罪中，张波积极参与共谋，直接实施杀害两名亲生子女的行为。

Ye, the father's girlfriend, pursued the death of the victims, by repeatedly urging Zhang to commit the murder on the grounds that she and her family could not accept the fact that Zhang had children. 

叶诚尘积极追求二被害人死亡的发生，多次以自己和家人不能接受张波有小孩为由，催促张波杀死两名小孩。
