New dates for 19th Asian Games announced

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) on Tuesday announced the new dates for the 19th Asian Games which will be held in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8, 2023.

亚奥理事会19日宣布，将于杭州举办的第19届亚运会的最新举办日期定为2023年9月23日至10月8日。

The 19th Asian Games were originally planned to be held from September 10 to 25, 2022, but was postponed by the OCA Executive Board on May 6 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

第19届亚运会原定于2022年9月10日至25日在杭州举行。受新冠疫情影响，亚奥理事会执委会于2022年5月6日决定推迟本届亚运会。

"The Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (HAGOC) will collaborate with all related parties in preparation for the Games in an all-round manner according to the confirmed dates to stage a spectacular sporting and cultural gala with Chinese Grandeur, Zhejiang Style and Hangzhou Flavor," read the organizers' statement. 

杭州亚组委声明称，将与有关各方共同努力，按照确定的举办日期全面做好筹办工作，呈现一届“中国特色、浙江风采、杭州韵味、精彩纷呈”的体育文化盛会。

Wang Jianan stunned the field to grab China's first ever long jump gold medal at the world athletics championships on Saturday.

Japan's two-time Winter Olympic gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu announced his retirement from competitive figure skating at a press conference on Tuesday.

19日，日本花样滑冰选手、两届冬奥会花滑冠军羽生结弦召开新闻发布会宣布退役，今后将不再参加竞技比赛。

"Thank you all for supporting me. Because of your support, figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu can make his achievements. I will no longer compete with other skaters in competitive figure skating, but will continue to work hard as a professional figure skater," Hanyu said.

羽生发言称：“感谢大家一直支持我。因为有大家的支持，才能成就花滑选手羽生结弦。今后我将不再与其他选手竞技，但将继续努力，作好一名职业花滑选手。”

"After the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, I always thought it was time to turn to professional skating, but I decided to turn to professional skating after the Beijing Olympics. I thought about it a lot when my right foot hurt so much that I couldn't skate, and I thought maybe competing in the arena wasn't necessary anymore. But I'm still determined to skate better and get stronger," he said.

Candidate of India's ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Droupadi Murmu on Thursday won the presidential election in the South Asian country after crossing the 50 percent mark of the total votes at the third round of counting.

A hidden self-portrait by Van Gogh uncovered

A self-portrait by Vincent Van Gogh was recently uncovered at the National Galleries of Scotland, hidden for more than a century on the back of a painting called Head of a Peasant Woman.

据《卫报》报道，近日，苏格兰国家美术馆在文森特•梵高的画作《农妇头像》的画布背后发现了另一幅梵高的自画像。这幅自画像已经隐藏了一个多世纪。

An independent expert on van Gogh said that, based on materials about the new discovery that the museum posted online, he felt confident that the hidden picture was a real self-portrait by the artist.

艺术历史家及梵高专家司吉拉•凡•霍格顿认为，根据美术馆公开的信息，可以肯定这幅画是真迹。

It's not clear yet whether it will be possible to uncover the hidden self-portrait, but that doesn't mean you can't see it.
