Ecuador got off to a winning start against hosts Qatar in the tournament opener at Al Bayt Stadium as the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 got underway after a stunning opening ceremony. 

2022年卡塔尔国际足联世界杯在精彩的开幕式后拉开帷幕。厄瓜多尔队在海湾球场举行的锦标赛揭幕战中战胜东道主卡塔尔队，取得开门红。

The match signaled the start of an exciting festival of football lasting 29 days, which will culminate with the final at Lusail Stadium on 18 December. Matches will be held in eight state-of-the-art stadiums as 32 nations battle it out to be crowned champions of the world.

At least 272 people were killed after a magnitude-5.6 earthquake hit Indonesia's West Java Province on Monday.

印尼西爪哇省21日发生5.6级地震，已造成至少272人死亡。

The quake forced 61,908 people to flee home in the district as it destroyed 56,320 houses and infrastructure facilities, including school buildings, roads, a bridge, health facilities, and office buildings.

地震发生后，当地61908人被迫离家避难，56320处房屋和基础设施遭到损毁，包括校舍、道路、桥梁、卫生设施和办公楼。

The quake also injured 2,043 residents, who were being treated at tents erected outside hospitals because of aftershocks.

The giant male panda Tuan Tuan, gifted by the Chinese mainland to Taiwan, died on Saturday, Taipei Zoo announced.

台北动物园宣布，大陆赠台雄性大熊猫“团团”已于19日去世。

Tuan Tuan's heart stopped beating at 1:48 p.m. under anesthetic, said the zoo.

动物园表示，19日下午1时48分，“团团”在麻醉沉睡中停止了心跳。

Tuan Tuan was ill in late August when he suddenly suffered seizures. A medical scan showed that he had brain edema and necrosis in September. Mainland experts went to the island to treat the panda earlier this month.

 “团团”今年8月下旬突然出现癫痫症状，9月查出脑部水肿、坏死迹象。本月早些时候，大陆曾派专家赴台治疗“团团”。

Tuan Tuan and the female panda Yuan Yuan arrived in Taipei as a goodwill gift from the mainland in December 2008 and have been beloved by Taiwan compatriots.

2008年12月，“团团”和雌性大熊猫“圆圆”作为大陆赠送的友好礼物抵达台北，受到台湾同胞的喜爱。
