她捐出48%的肝脏救了一个9岁女孩 | Beyond blood ties

Lin Ping has always been warm-hearted.

林萍是一个热心肠的人。

Working in the insurance industry, she calls herself a "busybody." In the rural area of Ningbo, the neighbors drop around frequently. Many villagers are well-acquainted with her. Now they know her even better because of her "great deed.”

作为一名保险业的从业者，她特别“爱管闲事”。在宁波农村，邻里之间本就走动频繁。许多村民和她都很熟悉。现在，大家对她的名字更加耳熟能详，这都是因为她的一个“壮举”。

In 2009, a nine-year-old girl in the village was diagnosed with grave liver disease and needed liver transplantation. When Lin Ping heard of the matter, she went to visit, hoping she could help find better medical resources.

2009年，同村9岁的小女孩患了罕见的肝病，需要做肝移植手术。林萍得知后决定去看望她，顺便看看自己能否为小女孩争取更好的医疗资源。

As neither of her parents passed the matching test, the family was in desperation. They asked Lin Ping if she could try the match. With little hesitation but a lot compassion, Lin Ping agreed. To her surprise, the match was successful. "I have to keep my promise," said Lin Ping. Making up her mind, she decided to donate half her liver to the girl.

当时，小女孩的父母正因为配型失败而走投无路，他们请求林萍去尝试一下。犹豫之后，林萍禁不住对女孩的同情，答应了下来。没想到，她的配型竟然成功了。“答应别人的事一定要做到。”抱着这样的想法，林萍决定将一半肝脏无偿捐给小女孩。

Donating a crucial organ to someone with no blood ties is a huge matter. Lin's family firmly opposed her decision. Her mother-in-law, her mother and her aunt all came to stop her. Being informed that her gallbladder has to be removed for the transplantation, Lin began to feel uncertain as well. However, she could not walk away from the suffering girl.

为毫无血缘关系的人捐献如此重要的器官不是一件小事，家人坚决反对林萍的决定。她的婆婆、母亲和大姨都到家里拦着她。得知捐献肝脏还要摘除胆囊后，林萍自己心里也开始没底了。但她无论如何都放不下病情危重的小女孩。

"I said to my mother that: 'you brought up my daughter, and she is also an innocent girl, but she is in pain. I cannot bear to overlook,'" Lin says, "Out of respect for life, if I could help her, I will." Finally, her family compromised and tried to support her.

“我跟我母亲讲，我们家女儿是你带大的。小孩子天真烂漫的，看她这么痛苦，真的不忍心。”林萍说，“出于对生命的尊重，我可以帮到她的话，我一定要帮她。”家人最后选择了妥协，尽力支持她。

On May 5, 2009, Lin Ping underwent the operation and donated 48 per cent of her liver. The transplantation was successful and drew the attention of the media. The day Lin Ping left the hospital, the whole village went to see her. The story soon became a major talking point in the society, which she did not anticipate: "I was shocked, and also moved. I didn't expect that to be something big, but so many people cared about me.”

2009年5月5日，林萍在上海瑞金医院接受了肝移植手术，将48%的肝脏捐给小女孩。手术非常成功，并且得到了媒体的广泛关注。出院那天，全村人都来看望林萍。之后，这件事在全社会继续发酵，让她始料不及：“我心里面真的是一种震撼，而且也是一种感动。我在不经意间做了这样一件事情，就有这么多的人来关心我。”

Now, the girl has recovered very well. Lin says: "Sometimes, I think that my liver is good and healthy in her body. It makes me feel very happy."

现在，接受捐赠的小女孩恢复得非常好。林萍说：“有时候想，我的那个肝在她身体里面健康地在长，这种感觉蛮美好的。”

After that, Lin Ping took an active role in charity. In the same year of her donation, she established the "Lin Ping Hope Studio." Together with other kind-hearted people, they built libraries, launched pairing projects to find foster parents for the left-behind children, and raised money for kids living in poverty and those with serious illnesses.

在此之后，林萍正式走上公益道路。在捐献肝脏的同一年，她成立了“林萍心愿工作室”，和许多爱心人士一起参与建设图书馆，开展爱心妈妈和留守儿童结对活动，也向社会募捐帮助贫困和患重大疾病的儿童。

Until now, they have helped more than 160 left-behind children find foster homes, and raised 2.74 million yuan for about 1,500 poor people.

到现在为止，他们已经为160余名留守儿童找到了自己的爱心家庭，累计筹款274万元，帮助困难群众约1500人次。

"It feels great to help others," says Lin Ping, "I wish I could try and help more people, in return for those who care about me.”

“帮助别人，自己也很快乐，”林萍说，“我希望能够尽自己所能，帮助更多的人，回馈那些关心我的人。”
