天哪！萌化了！怪不得全球人民都想给这萌团子当奶妈 | The luckiest ‘nanny’ in the world

This medium height girl wearing black-framed glasses is Mei Yan, a post-'80 breeder in Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. During her internship in 2008, Mei became interested in being a panda breeder. In the past 10 years, she has bred dozens of pandas here.

视频里这位个头不高，戴着黑框眼镜的女孩名叫梅燕。她是成都大熊猫繁育研究基地的一名80后饲养员。2008年毕业后梅燕就在该基地实习，实习期间就对熊猫饲养员的工作产生了浓厚的兴趣，工作至今已有十年。在此期间，经她之手喂养了数十只大熊猫，可以说，梅燕算是资深的熊猫饲养员了。

Mei has more than 100,000 followers on Weibo. Her posts of adorable pandas get so many likes. The optimistic Mei is an "Internet celebrity" in the Panda Base. The black-framed glasses and the lovely smile make her amiable just like a panda, which earned her the nickname "Nanny Mei".

梅燕在新浪微博上已有10万多粉丝，她经常在上面晒出熊猫的视频和图片，萌萌哒的场面总会引起网友疯狂点赞。梅燕算是研究基地名副其实的网红级“奶妈”，她乐观开朗，戴着黑框眼镜笑起来和熊猫一样萌萌的，大家亲切称她为“梅奶奶”。

After work, she enjoys watching videos about pandas on Weibo. "I feel relaxed and happy seeing them like that. Panda fans would think that I favor some pandas more than the others." Although for the keepers, they "treat them equally, as every one of the pandas is a national treasure."

上班照顾熊猫，下班后的梅燕也经常打开微博去看熊猫频道上的一些小视频，“看到它们就觉得什么烦心事都可以放下一样，很开心”。“有些猫粉会说你喜欢这个熊猫不喜欢那个”，其实在饲养员眼里“猫就是猫，我们一视同猫，都是我们的国宝”。

Despite being envied that she can carry the chubby pandas in her arms, Mei often complains about "being the nanny of these naughty cubs". 

不少网友羡慕“梅奶奶”可以抱到憨态可掬的熊猫宝宝，而梅燕时常感慨：“熊孩子的‘奶妈’不好当。”

"I have to do the same jobs again and again. As soon as I get here, I need to change into coveralls and do the cleaning. It's a bit boring actually," Mei says. "The daily routine is to clean up more than 50 kilograms of excrement, and to carry fresh bamboos of about the same weight. It is absolutely a manual labor of long hours." These baby pandas can weigh more than 20 kilograms. You'll need a lot of strength to hold them. For that, Mei trained herself to become a "tough girl". In her opinion, this job requires immense enthusiasm and perseverance.

“一天我们的工作重复性很大，早上一来，换了衣服就开始打扫卫生，其实挺无聊的”梅燕说，“每天清理粪便残渣上百斤，搬运鲜竹上百斤，照顾大熊猫完全是起早贪黑的体力活。”看起来萌萌的小熊猫，体重已达到二十多公斤，要想控制住它们着实需要费很大的力气。不过，对于梅燕来说，她早已练就一身肌肉，成为当之无愧的‘女汉子’。在梅燕看来，饲养员这份工作需要有极大的热情和毅力。

Although the cubs are cute, their paws and teeth can be very sharp. Mei gets new marks every day on her arms.  "A lot of tourists don't know about pandas, assuming they were as tamed as cats and dogs that can be touched at will. In fact, pandas are aggressive wild animals." In spite of this, she treats every panda like her own child. "They are just playing with you, yet it is very common for us to have bruises on the ankles bitten by them.”

虽然幼年大熊猫非常可爱，但是它们的爪子和牙齿还是很尖锐。梅燕每天受伤的概率是“百分之百”，胳膊上到处是新旧伤痕的印记。梅燕说：“很多游客不了解熊猫，以为它像家里的猫猫狗狗一样乖，可以随便伸手去摸，其实熊猫属于具有攻击性的野兽”。尽管如此，她依然把每只大熊猫当成自己的孩子一样照顾，“其实，它们只是跟你玩，但对我们来说脚踝被咬淤青是常见的（事情）。”

"The reproductive season for pandas is from June to August, when the breeders are totally engaged in it," says Mei. Once the panda shows signs of labor, the breeders will be on duty for 24 hours by its side, not to mention staying awake all night. After the delivery, they continue to take care of the lactating mother. Apart from that, babysitting the newborn is another job requiring extreme carefulness. "They are so vulnerable. They could easily get hurt," Mei says. "To be a competent nanny, you need patience, love, and professional knowledge." Despite the difficulties, when talking about her job, Mei couldn't help but say "such a lovely cub". 

“六七八月份是熊猫产仔的季节，也是饲养员最忙碌的季节”，熊猫只要出现待产征兆，饲养员就需要24小时值班，寸步不离地陪伴在熊猫身边，工作到后半夜更是家常便饭。当母猫顺利产仔后，饲养员们还要继续忙着照顾处于育幼期的母猫。此外，饲养熊猫幼崽也是一份极其细致的工作，“刚出生的熊猫幼崽很脆弱，稍微不小心就会把它弄伤”。梅燕告诉我们，“要想成为一名称职的‘奶妈’，需要有耐心和爱心，还要有一定的专业知识”。尽管如此，梅燕在谈起自己的工作时，说得最多的仍是“熊猫宝宝多可爱呀”。

Mei has a sense of accomplishment in the hard work. Seeing the pandas grow up healthily, she knows that her hard work has paid off, because "these pandas are just like family". 

虽然很辛苦，梅燕还是觉得很有成就感。看到萌萌的大熊猫一天天健康地长大，她认为自己的辛苦没有白费，因为“这些熊猫就像自己的家人一样”。
