Shanghai is finally lively again. Usher in 2023 with 25 major happenings while bidding farewell to 2022!
The 3rd Airport in Shanghai
In January, the Nantong Municipal Government stated that it would strive to start construction of the Shanghai Nantong International Airport within this year.
The airport has a planned area of about 670,000 ㎡, which is 160,000 ㎡ larger than that of Hongqiao Airport.
In the first phase, two long parallel runways (4F class) and a terminal building for 40 million passengers will be built, and the construction period will last about 4-5 years.
New Metro Planing
Recently, Shanghai released a new plan comprising nearly 100 km and seven rail transit lines.
The plan includes part of the Chongming Line, the implementation of the extension project of the first phase of Line 21, the northern section of Line 19, the eastern section of Line 20, the western section of Line 12, the eastern section of Line 13, and the southern section of Line 15.
The extension of the western section of Line 12 started in December 2022, and the rest of the lines will be implemented successively from 2023.
Shanghai Metro Links Suzhou
Line S1, Suzhou's first urban rail transit line, will start trial operation on March 1st.
The line starts from Suzhou Industrial Park in the west and ends at Kunshan Huaqiao Station in the east, connecting with Shanghai Metro Line 11.
In the future, there will be 12 cross-city rail transit lines operating between Shanghai and Suzhou.
980,000 ㎡ Urban Project
Putuo District is building an urban project with a total scale of 980,000 ㎡.
It includes 300,000 ㎡ of office buildings, 200,000 ㎡ of 5G communities, 20,000 ㎡ of public ecological greenway, and more.
The project will be fully completed in 2023.
New School in Putuo District
In January, the Putuo branch of the Second Affiliated Middle School of East China Normal University officially started construction.
The new campus has a total construction area of nearly 97,000 ㎡ and can accommodate 1,500 students.
As one of the four famous high schools in Shanghai, it will greatly influence the surrounding residential property prices.
The World's 3rd Largest IMAX Spherical Theater
Changtan IMAX theater, the largest IMAX spherical theater in China and the third largest in the world, is expected to open in 2023.
The theater is located in a 280,000 ㎡ theme park.
The giant screen is about 22.4 meters wide and 12 meters high, and the theatre can accommodate about 380 pax.
The World's Largest Indoor Ski Resort
Wintastar originally planned to open to the public in 2022 but will be delayed to 2023 due to the impact of the pandemic.
The ski resort area is more than three times larger than Ski Dubai, the world's largest ski resort. There are three types of ski trails with different gradients here.
The indoor ski resort is Alps-themed, covering 90,000 ㎡, and includes 25 snow activities.
The 28,000 ㎡ water park with a Nordic Viking theme is divided into two floors, offering indoor and outdoor activities for visitors.
The Highest Artificial Mountain in China
Twin Mountain has a total area of 300,000 ㎡. The relative height of the highest peak on the east side of the mountain is 48 m. After completion, it will become the first artificial mountain higher than 40 m in China.
The interior of the Twin Mountain has nature-like cave landscape, with various natural elements, such as light and sound.
The main structure of the Twin Mountain has been completed, and the greenery and landscaping will be completed in 2023. It is expected to open to the public in 2024.
Top Level Museum of Traditional Chinese Art
The Shanghai Museum East Hall will open at the end of this year.
The rectangular building has a simple and minimalist design. The continuous marble curve shape adjacent to the pool outside the museum reflects the geographical characteristics of Shanghai.
The total construction area of the Shanghai Museum East Hall is 113,000 ㎡, which is twice that of the People’s Square Hall.
The Largest Indoor Professional Theater in Shanghai
31 NEW BUND, the largest indoor professional theater in Shanghai, will host its first performance in July.
With 2,500 seats, it has its own black-box theatre, VIP room, and a banquet grade restaurant.
In addition to musicals, concerts, operas, etc., the theater will host a series of trendy cultural activities such as exhibitions and talk shows.

Shanghai Juss International Equestrian Center
Shanghai Juss International Equestrian Center can be completed and opened in 2023 at the earliest.
The main building contains a 90*60 m competition field, a warm-up field, a training field, and a spectator stand with approximately 5000 seats.
The Equestrian Center will become the first permanent professional competition venue in China that meets the standards of top international equestrian events..

Shanghai Panlong Tiandi
Shanghai Panlong Tiandi is expected to open in spring.
The 52,000 ㎡ ancient town business district has 230,000 ㎡ parkland and ten ancient bridges.
Places to visit here will include hotels, art galleries, intangible cultural heritage experience halls, and urban farms.

Shanghai Longhua Hui
Shanghai Longhua Hui is an open commercial area of about 88,000 ㎡.
Many entertainment options, such as a food court, trendy retail, and local beauty brands, will be available here.
The basement area follows a "Flowers in the Four Seasons" theme and incorporates the traditional elements of Longhua Temple.

Shanghai LOVE@The City
The 220,000 ㎡ giant shopping mall is currently the largest shopping mall planned to open in 2023.
The mall comprises a 24 meter wide pedestrian street, an 8,000 ㎡ children's entertainment area, and a large cinema.
About half of the area will be used for dining and will feature various international dining and entertainment elements.

Caolu Garden City
Caolu Garden City covers an area of about 150,000 ㎡. It is expected to open in October.
The mall is built around "water" and "forest" concepts.
Seven themed zones have been planned.
It will be the largest single shopping center in Pudong New Area in the past three years.

CPIC Xintiandi Commercial Center
CPIC Xintiandi Commercial Center has a total development space of 390,000 ㎡, of which the commercial part is about 88,000 ㎡.
It is expected to introduce 260 stores, including cinemas, bookstores, dining and entertainment bars, indoor entertainment experience centers, etc.
The top of the Center will also have a 6500 ㎡ scenic canopy area.

UniPark MAX is set to open in October.

The 130,000 ㎡ MIRA LAND is expected to open by the end of this year.

MGM Shanghai West Bund is the first city hotel to be opened by MGM in Chinese Mainland.

The hotel is expected to open in the first quarter of this year.

Three-Body·Beyond Gravity
The immersive sci-fi experience of "Three-Body·Beyond Gravity," officially authorized by "Three-Body," will open at AI PLAZA in the first quarter of this year.
