2021年6月5日至7月4日,上海喜玛拉雅美术馆将于3B、3C、3D展厅举办艺术家潘剑的大型个展《渐变》。喜玛拉雅美术馆自创立以来,一直对绘画有持续的关注、探索和呈现,十多年前就做了巴塞利兹、伊门杜夫、施纳贝尔等国际大师们的绘画展,也关注着国内一批年轻艺术家的实验性绘画,今天做潘剑的绘画展,是美术馆持续关注绘画本身的一种学术态度。
Pan Jian's large-scale solo exhibition "Evolution" will be shown in Hall 3B, 3C and 3D of Shanghai Himalayas Museum from June 5th to July 4th, 2021. Since its establishment, the Shanghai Himalayas Museum has continuously focused on exploring and presenting the art form of painting. Over a decade ago, we hosted exhibitions of international painting masters such as Georg Baselitz, Jörg Immendorff, Julian Schnabel, among others, while also paying attention to the experimental painting practices of the younger generation. Pan Jian's solo exhibition reflects this academic attitude on which our institution continues to focus.

本次展览取名“渐变”,梳理和呈现的是潘剑2011年至2021年的作品脉络,展出的50余件作品将向我们展示潘剑过去十年的创作面貌和心路历程。潘剑从一开始便选择了非主流的边缘状态,一直立足于绘画本体探索绘画媒介的可能性,作品从最初的黄昏中的城市、巨幅的海浪,到城乡结合部的角落,以及树林中的人物,再到漆黑的荒原、暮光中的树林、树的阴影、以及对流层的光,直到近期只有斑斓的色彩,其绘画主题从较为具象的城市景观和自然景观逐渐转为对光影和色彩关系的研究,画面渐趋于抽象。
The title of this exhibition is "Evolution", which is a series of Pan Jian's works from 2011 to 2021. More than 50 works on display show us the creative outlook and inner journey of Pan Jian. He has chosen a non-mainstream, marginal state from the beginning, and has been exploring the possibilities of the painting medium itself. His works change from cityscape at dusk and large painting of waves at first, to garbage in the urban fringe, and figure in the woods, and then to darkened wastelands, woods at twilight, shadows of light, and light in the troposphere, and now there are only splashes of color. The subject matter of his paintings has gradually shifted from the more figurative urban landscape and natural landscape to the research on the relationship of light and shadow, and the color. His paintings have gradually become more and more abstract.

潘剑最初从现实中提取图像,用自己的色彩将其变成一个新的图像;现在,他开始从身边攫取颜色来制造自己的虚拟图像世界——离现实很远,却离内心很近。颜色来自真实世界,制造的结果又虚幻又具体。
Previously, Pan Jian extracted images from reality and turned them into new images with his own colors. Now, he has started to use colors from around him to create his own virtual image worlds, which are far from reality but close to his inner world. The colors come from the real world, and the result is unreal but concrete.

潘剑一直在做减法,从对外在景物的描绘转为了内在探索。不论图式的改变、色彩的变化,还是不同时期所使用的不同创作材料、工具及综合手段,每一次转变都蕴含了潘剑对于绘画语言的思考与实践,也反应了艺术家每个阶段工作方法和心境的变化。渐变,代表了色彩、图式、语言、画面气质等逐渐变化的过程,也代表了艺术家本人的成长与蜕变,以及缓慢、沉潜、专注的创作态度。《渐变》由喜玛拉雅美术馆学术副馆长刘珍策划。
Pan Jian has been doing subtraction, and changing from the description of the external scene to the inner exploration. Whether it's the change of the pattern, the change of the color, or the different creative materials, tools and integrated means he used in different periods, each transformation implies Pan Jian’s contemplation and practice on the language of painting, and also reflects the changes of the artist’s working methods and state of mind at each stage. 'Evolution' represents the gradual change of color, pattern, language, temperament of picture, and also the growth and metamorphosis of the artist himself, as well as the slow, determined, attentive and focused attitude towards creation.

is curated by Liu Zhen, the Deputy Director of Shanghai Himalayas Museum.

艺术家介绍
潘剑
,1975 年生于山东,2001年毕业于西安美术学院油画系并留校任教,现工作生活于北京和西安。潘剑对光影和色彩敏感,一直立足于绘画本体探索绘画媒介的可能性,自2006开始,受宋画启发用毛笔画画,后逐渐采用更多的创作手段,乃至几乎不再用笔画画,在使用综合材料的过程中体会着如何将“偶然”转化为“必然”。最初,他从现实中提取图像,用自己的色彩将其变成一个新的图像。后来,他开始从身边攫取颜色来制造自己的虚拟图像世界,放弃“描绘”和“具体”、“非具体”的界限,通过对比的辩证关系接近材料和材料之间的边缘地带。这些年来,潘剑一直在做减法,从对外在景物的描绘转为了内在探索,画面渐趋于抽象。

潘剑的作品被乌利·希克(瑞士)、余德耀美术馆(上海)、林宏修 (印尼)、皮埃尔·胡伯(瑞士)、DSL收藏(法国)、莫妮卡·博格(瑞士)、M+博物馆(香港)等众多艺术机构及藏家收藏。
PAN JIAN
, born in 1975 in Shandong Province, graduated from Oil Painting Department of Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts in 2001; Currently works and lives in Beijing and Xi’an. Pan Jian is sensitive to light and shadow and color. He has been exploring the possibilities of the painting medium itself. Inspired by paintings of the Song dynasty, Pan Jian used Chinese painting brushes to paint since 2006. Later, he adopted more creative means than ever before, and even paints nearly without brushes, experiencing how to transform "serendipity" into "inevitability" in the process of using integrated materials. Previously, Pan Jian extracted images from reality and turned them into new images with his own colors. Now, he has started to use colors from around him to create his own virtual image worlds, and also abandoned the boundary between "depiction" or "concrete" and "non-concrete contents”, and approached the periphery among different materials through the dialectical relationship of contrast. Pan Jian has been doing subtraction these years, and changing from the description of the external scene to the inner exploration. His paintings have gradually become more and more abstract.

His important group exhibitions include Pan Jian & Gao Weigang- Amber, OCAT Xi’an, Xi’an (2019); Mapping the City: A Vision of History and Xi’an, OCAT Xi’an, Xi’an (2018); Outside the Lines, RH Contemporary Art, New York, USA (2014); Chengdu Biennale, Chengdu (2011); Pure Views - New Painting from China, Asian Art Museum, San Francisco (2011) / LBF Foundation, London (2010); Reshaping History - China Youth New Art Invitational Exhibition, Arario Gallery, Beijing (2010); Negotiations - 2nd Today Documentation Exhibition, Today Art Museum, Beijing (2010).
His works are collected by many private collectors and art institutions such as Uli Sigg Collection (Switzerland), Yuz Museum (Shanghai), Hongxiu Ling (Indonesia), Pierre Huber (Switzerland), DSL Collection (France), Burger Collection (Switzerland) and M+ Museum (Hong Kong).
