A painting pig named Pigcasso who was saved from slaughter at the 11th hour before becoming a world-renowned artist has sold an abstract work for a record breaking £20,000.
The painting, Wild and Free, was bought on Monday hours after it came up for sale by a German buyer named Peter Esser.
It trumps the previous record of £14,000 for an animal's artwork, set by a chimp named Congo in 2005.
The painting is a large canvas featuring blue, green and white acrylic streaks which took Pigcasso several weeks to complete.
The animal artist has created hundreds of paintings over the last five years after being saved from the slaughterhouse as a piglet by owner, Joanne Lefson.
The pair live at Farm Sanctuary SA - a safe haven for rescued farm animals nestled in the Franschhoek Valley of South Africa.
Joanne said she had Congo's record in mind before the concept of Pigcasso's latest piece was developed, but rather than break the record, simply wanted to show how intelligent and creative animals are.
She said: 'I wanted to have Pigcasso create something that had never be done before.
'An oversize, larger-than-life canvas that could challenge the intrinsic value of an artwork created by an animal.'
On completion, the work was posted on social media and sold within 72 hours of release.
Joanne added: 'There was significant interest in the piece.
'It's not just a visually striking and beautiful painting, it's a profound moment for Pigcasso, and for farm animals.
'You can't look at it and not place greater value on their intelligence, individual and creativity.'
Pigcasso was rescued a month after birth from an industrialized hog operation on the outskirts of Cape Town in 2016.
Joanne noticed that the pig had a knack for painting after some old paintbrushes were left in her stall by accident.
She decided to nurture the pig's interest and now, at five-years-old and weighing a whopping 1,500lbs, Pigcasso has created over 400 works of original art.
Proceeds from all sales go towards the running of Farm Sanctuary SA and the care of the vulnerable animals there.
