A mother in Zhuhai learned a valuable lesson last week after giving her two-year-old daughter her diamond ring to play with before laying down to take a midday nap.

The mom was quickly awoken from her slumber by the wailing of her child who simply pointed to her neck and said the word “ring,” according to a report from the Southern Metropolis Daily.

After being rushed to the hospital and undergoing an X-ray scan, doctors discovered that there was indeed a diamond ring stuck in the little girl’s esophagus, measuring 2.35cm by 2.05cm.

Knowing that the ring could do some serious damage if it made its way farther down the toddler’s digestive system, surgeons quickly prepared to operate.

In a 30-minute-long operation, surgeons were able to retrieve the ring with the little girl suffering no ill-effects from the experience.

Doctors would like to remind parents to be careful about what they give their children, because kids have been proven to eat anything. Over the years, they have had to retrieve a wide variety of small objects from the insides of infants, including rings, coins, hairpins, buttons, and marbles.

Back in 2014, one two-year-old boy nearly had his intestines pierced through after swallowing a safety pin while his mother was busy doing chores.
