【丛书介绍】

“新世纪英语语言文学界面研究丛书”汇聚了国外近年出版的界面研究的一批典范之作,方法多元,探讨深入,向国内读者呈现了“原汁原味”的国际界面研究的精华成果。丛书由我国外语界面研究权威熊沐清董洪川撰写总序,每种分册皆由国内相关领域的知名专家撰写中文导读(小编补充:每册导读二十页左右),内容翔实,分析精辟,为读者提供提纲挈领的评述,从而帮助读者尽快了解各分册的基本脉络、主要内容及其与相关学科、著述之间的纵横关系。

【总序选摘】

人们一般把“界面”理解为“跨学科”。所以,当interface用来指称学科间的关系时,它与transdisciplinary以及cross-disciplinary有密切联系,且经常互换使用,许多人不加区别地使用它们。但事实上,它们之间是有微妙区别的。尽管它们的涵义与interface非常接近,但transdisciplinary和cross-disciplinary这些词一般指学科之间的比照或借鉴,但不能用来指学科分支(如语义—句法、音位—句法、语音—音位等界面)之间的关系,它们所谓的“跨学科”主要是方法论意义上的。相比之下,interface一词绝不仅仅是方法论意义上的指谓,它具有本体论意义——它是一种实存,是实际存在的认识论对象。当我们谈论学科A与学科B的“界面”时,这里的“界面”指的是学科A与学科B相交的那一部分——即使这个“相交的”部分占去了该学科的大部分疆域。正是因为这种“相交”的特征,使“界面”不同于一般的“跨学科”而具有自己的本体论属性。其实,汉译“接口”或“接面”或许更接近interface的原意,因为这个“接”字表明了两者间的直接关系。


基于这种语义蕴涵,“界面研究”虽然可以简单地理解为一种“跨学科研究”,但它与一般的跨学科研究是有不同的。严格说来,“界面研究”应该是“对某些学科或学科分支之间的界面的研究”。

This book focusses on computer methodologies as a way of investigating language and character in literary texts. Both theoretical and practical, it surveys investigations into characterization in literary linguistics and personality in social psychology, before carrying out a computational analysis of Virginia Woolf's experimental novel The Waves. Frequencies of grammatical and semantic categories in the language of the six speaking characters are analyzed using Matrix software developed by UCREL at Lancaster University. The quantitative analysis is supplemented by a qualitative analysis into recurring patterns of metaphor. The author concludes that these analyses successfully differentiate all six characters, both synchronically and diachronically, and claims that this methodology is also applicable to the study of personality in non-literary language. The book, written in a clear and accessible style, will be of interest to post-graduate students and academics in linguistics, stylistics, literary studies, psychology and also computational approaches.

Cyberpragmatics is an analysis of Internet-mediate communication from the perspective of cognitive pragmatics.
