Org. Setting and Reporting

This internship position is with the United Nations ESCAP Library, which is part of the Strategic Publications, Communications & Advocacy team in the Office of the Executive Secretary. The internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension up to six months, if required by the division. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the division or office to which they are assigned.


Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background and the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- cataloguing books, serials and multimedia materials in the Library's integrated library system (ILS);
- assisting in the Library's digitization efforts;
- assisting in collection management activities (shelving, weeding, etc...);
- assisting in reference and circulation services;
- designing and publishing publicity materials on the Library's e-resources and services;
- designing and delivering Library training modules and supporting materials on various topics (searching the catalogue, using online databases, accessing e-journals, etc...);
- taking part in the Library's information and knowledge management tasks and initiatives (i.e. editing intranet and internet pages, developing strategies for further improvements, etc...);
- reviewing and organizing ESCAP's photographic collection and selecting priority images for digitization; and
- preparing materials for temporary off-site storage.

Education

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements, at the time of application : 
a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
c) have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.


Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme; 

shall be computer literate in standard software applications; have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; 

and have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.


Languages


English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Manager of Species Programme

Program Brief


  • This is for snow leopard conservation programme under WWF ABC and species practice team.

  • Programme Manager needs to frequently contact with operation teams, project financial officer and communication staff in charge of species practice programme. And also needs to occasionally contact with other WWF China programme, officers and teams when needed.

  • Furthermore Programme Manager will closely contact with donors/funding agencies, government officials, research institutions and universities. And the programme Manager needs to frequently contact with other agencies and offices in WWF network engaging in snow leopard conservation as well as media agencies.


Main Responsibilities


  1. Develop and implement strategy plan.

  2. Support to establish the programme team and develop strategy and operation plans.

  3. Develop concepts and proposals to raise fund.

  4. Develop project annual work plans and budgets.

  5. Monitor project implementation in line with WWF standards.

  6. Develop and maintain project documentation and database serving as an information source for WWF family.

  7. Prepare financial and technical reports as required.

  8. Assist communication colleagues for development of sound communication strategy and participate in communication activities when needed. 

  9. Develop and maintain trans boundary wildlife network.

  10. Manage partner relationship for wildlife.

  11. Other tasks allocated by organization.


Qualifications


  1. At least Master degree in ecology, wildlife conservation or related.

  2. At least 10 years work experience in wildlife conservation, community development or related field.

  3. Basic competency of project management.

  4. Understanding conservation issues in China.

  5. Familiar with international organization operating rules.

  6. Familiar with adaptive management approach.

  7. Excellent language skills in Chinese and English.

  8. Good communication skills.

  9. Basic learning ability.

  10. Adaptive to frequent field travel.

  11. Dynamic, creative, proactive, credible, accountable and outgoing personality and commitment to nature conservation.

Summary


  • China Low Carbon Cities Program (LCCP) aims to help China cities reach a low carbon future. Under the specific goal of assisting cities peak carbon emissions and reach air quality standards as early as possible, we corporate with various organizations and programs to provide comprehensive low carbon solutions for cities, including developing peaking roadmaps, making sectorial implementation plans, conducting low carbon policy research, and providing capacity building and peer learning opportunities.  Our in-house urban system capacity includes the sectors of urban planning, urban transportation and buildings.

  • The Program Officer (PO) is responsible for supporting the Program Director (PD) to identify strategies and manage a grants portfolio to achieve the program’s goals. This person will support the PD to manage budget and grants, represent the program internally and externally, interface with individual grantees and supervise Program Associate (PA) when applicable. The PO will work with the program team that will include PD and PA, and collaborates with other program teams. PO’s responsibilities are categorized as: Strategy Cycle, Fundraising, Grants and Projects Management, Collaborations, Partnership and General Management.

REQUIRMENTS


  1. Education: Master’s degree or equivalent, preferably in a related field: urban planning, urban transportation, architecture, economics, etc; Deep interest in sustainable urban development, urban transportation systems, building, environment and climate issues.

  2. Working experience: above 8 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experiences in program management, program evaluation, and communication strongly preferred. 

  3. English level: ability to communicate fluently in both spoken and written English.

  4. Communication: ability to communicate logically and articulate key messages/points with clear structure and fact-based supporting arguments, listen actively to audience’s purpose, and communicate effectively in public.

  5. Project management: ability to propose project direction, lay out project plan with milestones, timelines and tracking mechanisms, and to accomplish the project on time and in good quality.

  6. Problem solving: ability to define and prioritize the key issues when facing complex situations, make analysis with logical reasoning, propose possible solutions and resolve some complicated issues independently.

  7. Networking: ability to initiate partnership, cultivate networks and deepen the relationships with key stakeholders to effectively leverage resources
