Overview of the functions of the post
Description of Responsibilities:
Under the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO Beijing Cluster Office and the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist for Social and Human Sciences, the incumbent will assist in the design, development and implementation of the Office’s activities in the field of Social and Human Sciences (SHS) within the framework of the Office’s mandate. This will include more specifically:
1. International Youth Forum on Creativity and Heritage along the Silk Roads: the incumbent will assist the Programme Specialist with the technical, organizational, logistical and administrative aspects of the event, including assisting with the development and implementation of follow-up activities.
2. Nanjing Peace Forum: the incumbent will assist the Programme Specialist with the technical, organizational, logistical and administrative aspects of the event, including assisting with the development and implementation of follow-up activities.
3. Social and human sciences related activities: the incumbent will assist the Programme Specialist in developing and implementing activities under the Social and Human Sciences Programme in cluster countries, the Asia and Pacific region, and globally, including on but not limited to the following areas: inclusive development; management of social transformations; social dimensions of climate change; intercultural understanding; human rights, discrimination and racism; youth; sports for development; gender studies and gender equality; ethics of artificial intelligence, ethics of science and technology, bioethics, and climate change ethics; etc.
4. The incumbent will assist the Programme Specialist to ensure the smooth implementation of the activities of the Social and Human Sciences Unit, including through but not limited to assisting with the preparation and follow-up of contracts, monitoring of the budget situation, communication and liaison with project partners and various SHS networks, supervision of the work of interns, organization of events/seminars/workshops/trainings, preparation and follow-up of missions including travel arrangements and undertaking missions as requested by the supervisor.
5. The incumbent will assist the Programme Specialist and the Social and Human Sciences Unit in preparing various kinds of reports, communications and correspondence such as periodic reports on the implementation of the programme, country briefings, UN reporting, meeting minutes, inputs to office publications and social medias, website update, speeches, presentations, memos, letters and other correspondence, other outreach and communication materials, and provide translation, proofreading and interpretation in Chinese and English when needed.
6. The incumbent will assist the Programme Specialist and the Social and Human Sciences Unit in maintaining contacts with UNESCO National Commissions, the related ministries, UN agencies, development agencies, donors and NGOs.
7.The incumbent will contribute to research and activities, as requested by the Director and/or the Programme Specialist, including collection and systematization of gender- disaggregated results data, and execute any other task that may be required.
Required qualifications
EDUCATION
WORK EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 5 years of relevant job experience.
Experience in the area of project management, coordination and implementation.
