Envisage 是一个与小站（微信公众号：田间小站）推送过的 presage 一样都是以 sage 结尾的单词，三者可以一并联想记忆。

从词源上来看， envisage 与单词 visage （脸；表情）同源，都源自于法语 visage （脸、面孔）。其中 envisage 最早于1778年由法语 envisager （直视）进入英语，也是用来表示“正视、面对”，比如：

• 面对危险
  envisage danger

除了现实和危险需要正视和面对以外，往往我们在脑海里十分清晰地想象某个事物的时候，也好像是直接面对着该事物。从这个概念出发， envisage 到了1837年后进而用来引申指“想象、设想、预想、预计、展望”，常用搭配 envisage (doing) sth ，常意味着一种特别清晰或详细的构思或想象，以至于所设想之事物就像是直观呈现在人的面前那般。比如：
