[Cover Story] The practical application of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is still hampered from achieving both efficient and stable PSCs through the selection of suitable hole transport materials (HTMs). Prof. Tang et al. reported a butoxy group substituted soluble copper phthalocyanine (CuPc-OBu), which is easily prepared, low-cost and stable, as HTM for PSCs. The high-quality HTM film of CuPc-OBu can be obtained by doping 4-tert-butylpyridine and then removing by annealing. The high-quality CuPc-OBu film can give improved efficiency and good stability both in Pb-PSCs and Sn-PSCs. The best efficiency was up to 19.0% for Pb-based PSCs and 6.9% for Sn-based PSCs. More importantly, this HTM also delivered promising performance in Pb-based module device with efficiency of 10.1%, which may push the mass production of PSCs commercialization into reality (see the article on pages 1053–1058).
