1946年,联合国大会通过第13(I)号决议,决定成立联合国新闻部,以培养公众的全球意识,增进他们对联合国工作的理解。新闻部通过使用广播、电视、出版物、网络和视讯会议等媒体工具完成上述使命。新闻部每年向隶属联合国大会的新闻委员会汇报工作。新闻委员会每年举行一次会议,它负责监督新闻部的工作,并提供政策、方案和活动的指导。


实习生职位介绍

Org. Setting and Reporting

The position is located in the Television Section of the News and Content Branch, News and Media Division. The unit is seeking interns interested in gaining professional, hands-on experience with television and multimedia functions, specifically film, video and social media projects. The internship is for a minimum of two months with a possibility for extension. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Chief of the section.

Responsibilities

This opportunity is designed for an intern to work side by side with an experienced information professional. Interns will be trained to work with one or two producers or assistant producers in creating videos for various feature programmes including 21st Century, UN In Action and UNStories. Basic functions include assisting in script writing and editing using Abode Premiere and Final Cut Pro X. Interns may also be requested to perform other ad hoc duties including being trained to assist in studio recordings.

Communication: Speaks and writes clearly and effectively. Listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately. Demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed. Asks questions to clarify, and exhibits interest in having two-way communication. Tailors language, tone, style and format to match the audience. 

Teamwork: solicits input by genuinely valuing others' ideas and expertise; is willing to learn from others. Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals. Places team agenda before personal agenda. Supports and acts in accordance with final group decision, even when such decisions may not entirely reflect own position. Shares credit for team accomplishments and accepts joint responsibility for team shortcomings. 

Client Orientation: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be "clients " and seeks to see things from clients' point of view. Establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect. Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients' environment to keep informed and anticipate problems. Identifies clients' needs and matches them to appropriate solutions. Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects. Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, Department of Public Information, the following conditions must be met: 

1. Applicants must: 

(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme in journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations or related field (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or 
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations or related field (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or 
(c) have graduated with a university degree in journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations or related field (as defined in (a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation. 

2. Be computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar. 

Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and 

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

No professional work experience required.

Languages

English or French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the internship advertised, fluency in both English and Chinese is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

United Nations Considerations

According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.
