TIANJIN: 3 Big Railway Stations to carry out large-scale nucleic acid tests

Tianjin has strengthened epidemic control and prevention measures by tightening its management on tourists entering and departing from the city amid the recent COVID-19 resurgence. Three big railway stations in Tianjin will carry out large-scale nucleic acid tests in the following 2 days.

Tianjin Railway Station

Test Date: August 4th, 5th
Scope of testing:
1. All staff in the Tianjin Station area (including relevant staff from catering and accommodation units);
2. All residents and staff in the area of east side of the railway Jinshan Line, west side of Xinhuan Road, south side of Hualong Road, north side of Huachang Road.

Tianjin South Railway Station

Test Date: August 4th 14:00-22:00, August 5th, 8:30-10:30
Scope of testing: Within 3 kilometers from the Tianjin South Railway Station

Tianjin West Railway Station

Test Date: August 4th. 9:00-13:00, 17:00-22:00
Scope of testing: Tianjin West Railway Station, West Railway Station Long-distance Passenger Station; Santiaoshi Street Dafeng West Building 1-4, Building 80, Building 82; Shaogongzhuang Street Hetong Garden, Jinfeng Apartment, Jinlian Apartments, Jiansheli, Jiannanli and surrounding buildings, businesses, government agencies, enterprises and institutions, etc.

西青区关于对天津南站地区相关从业人员及周边社区居民开展预防性大规模人群核酸检测筛查工作的通知
一、筛查时间：2021年8月4日（周三）14：00-22：00；2021年8月5日（周四）8：30-10：30（补漏）　　二、筛查范围：以南站为中心3公里以内，将天津南站站区、社会山东苑、社会山北苑、社会山一区、二区、社会山南苑、社会山广场、香锦园、瑞欣家园、瑞欣园、杨伍庄村、正荣府周边建设工地等人员流动性大的点位纳入筛查范围。
红桥区关于对天津西站地区相关从业人员及周边社区居民开展预防性大规模人群核酸检测筛查工作的通知
一、筛查时间：2021年8月4日（周三）9：00-13：00，17：00-22：00。
二、筛查范围：铁路天津西站、西站长途客运站；三条石街大丰西1-4号楼、80号楼、82号楼；邵公庄街河通花园、金丰公寓、金联公寓、建设里、建设南里及周边楼宇、商户、机关企事业单位等。

Chinese air passengers can request refunds for Aug 4 to Aug 31 flights, Railway also offers full ticket refunds

Passengers who have bought domestic tickets for flights scheduled from August 4 to 31 can request a full refund, China’s aviation regulator said on Tuesday as the highly transmissible Delta variant of the coronavirus hit many Chinese cities.

The policy is to accommodate control and prevention measures for coronavirus by reducing the movement of people, the Civil Aviation Administration said in a statement.

China Railway is offering full refunds on all railway tickets purchased before August 4 to curb the spread of COVID-19 through communities.

The full refund policy exempts the charge of service fees and applies to tickets booked via various channels, such as railway stations and mobile app 12306, the online railway ticket booking platform, it announced on Tuesday.

Passengers are reminded to take proper anti-virus precautions while traveling on board train.

8月3日晚，民航局下发通知，明确旅客在2021年8月4日0时前已购买乘机日期在8月4日至8月31日的国内机票，自8月4日0时起至航班起飞前可以免费退票，航空公司及其航空销售代理人不得收取费用；8月4日0时前已申请退票的旅客，不适用本通知。
在此之前，中国国家铁路集团有限公司已推出免费退票措施，自即时起，旅客在车站、12306网站等各渠道，办理2021年8月3日24时前已购各次列车有效车票退票时，均不收取退票手续费，购买铁路乘意险的一同办理。

Scientists Fear "antigenic drift", fatality rate may reach 35%

The British government's scientific advisers have raised the prospect of fighting a forever war against the coronavirus saying the eradication of the virus "will be unlikely." And they warn "there will always be variants."
They hold out the hope that the virus may evolve in such a way that it causes "much less severe disease," but they caution that is unlikely to happen for some time. Preventive measures and restrictions will be needed in the meantime as there's a "realistic possibility" that vaccine-resistant variants will emerge.

And, chillingly, in a report released last week by Britain's Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies, otherwise known as SAGE, the scientists do not discount the chance of a new variant arising with the deadliness of MERS, another coronavirus which has a case fatality rate of 35%.

It was instead quietly snuck out among a glut of reports during parliamentary recess. Recommendations and comments made by SAGE bring home the simple reality — that we have not yet 'defeated' this virus," Whitford, a qualified surgeon, added.

In the paper, the scientists outline the chances that a new variant will evade current vaccines, saying that is "almost certain" to happen. SAGE's biggest fear is of "antigenic drift," small changes in the genes of a virus that can lead to changes in its surface proteins. Most of the vaccines in current use target the surface proteins of the coronavirus. The scientists also worry about the possibility of variants recombining to become more infectious.
