穷秀才脱贫记丨扶贫故事

王庄村，地处河南省唐河县。2015年，这里还是基础条件落后的贫困村。村里的贫困人口较多，很多都是因病致贫，王万才便是其中一户。

Located in Tanghe County, Henan Province, Wangzhuang Village is rated as a national "ecological culture village" and the "forest village" of Henan Province. In 2015, this beautiful place was one of the poorest villages in Henan. Here, many households suffered from illness-related poverty, and Wang Wancai's family is one of them.

年轻时的老王，是个勤勤恳恳的农民，爱读书、爱创作，村民们都叫他“王秀才”。那时候，他对未来的生活还充满向往， “（那时的）生活还是蛮有情趣的”老王回忆道。

When he was young, Wang relied largely on farming. He loved reading and writing, and the villagers called him "Scholar Wang." Working as a farmer, he yearned for a better life. "At that time, my life was full of interest," said Wang.

然而，一场疾病打破了原本平静幸福的生活。上世纪80年代，他的儿子刚出生几个月，家人就发现，小孩儿的反应有点不正常。经神经内科的专家诊断，是大脑发育不良，非但无法治愈，病情还会随着年龄的增长逐渐加重。

However, an illness interrupted his happy life. In the 1980s, when his son was a few months old, there was something wrong with the baby. His son was diagnosed with cortical dysplasia, which is not only incurable but can get worse with age.

突如其来的打击，一下子压垮了这个本不富裕的家庭。儿子生病需要照料，不能外出打工，全家人仅靠六亩地为生，加之多年求医问药无果，王万才彻底放弃希望，整日借酒消愁，无心打理田地，一年收入仅2000余元。

The sudden shock crushed the ordinary family. Having to look after his son, he couldn't go out to work. The whole family lived on only three acres of land. After multiple setbacks, Wang became a registered poverty-stricken household, spending his days drinking and earning only about 2,000 yuan a year.

2016年，村里派驻了工作队和帮扶人，给村里的困难群众带来保障的同时，王庄村的脱贫攻坚工作正式进入正轨。

In 2016, the government sent teams and helpers, to help with the livelihoods of poverty-stricken households. Poverty alleviation was officially on track.

经过调研，发扶贫干部发现，个别贫困户存在等、靠、要的思想，缺乏自身内生动力。以王建才为例，儿子的医药费耗尽了这个普通家庭的存款，但精神上的懈怠与自我放弃，也是致贫的内因之一。

During the survey, the poverty alleviation cadres found that some poor households merely waited and depended on others for help, and lacked motivation. For example, the medical expenses of Wang's son cost the savings of the poor family. But spiritual indolence and self-abandonment were also the internal causes of their poverty.

“（那时候）希望完全破灭了，不愿意干活，就觉得挣钱没有意义了，挣钱给谁花，就想着苦日子慢慢熬吧。”

'It's a total loss of hope. I became demotivated. There's no meaning in making money anymore. No cure for my boy. I could only spend the rest of my life in pain," said Wang.

想要脱贫致富，必须通过自己的双手劳动。2016，在工作队和帮扶人的帮助和督促下，老王申请了到户增收项目，种植的西瓜长势良好，挣得一万八千元。政府还帮老王安置了一个公益岗位，做些清洁打扫的工作，每月能领750元工资。收入增加了，老王的心理压力减轻了不少。

If you want to become rich, you must work hard. In 2016, with the government’s help，he applied for the income generating project to grow watermelons and received 18,000 yuan. The government also provided Wang a public welfare post. From cleaning, Wang earned 750 yuan per month, which relieved his stress.

重拾希望的老王，逐渐从被动变为主动，努力改善家里的生活条件。土地收入、各种补贴，加上闲时务工的收入，短短一年多的时间，老王就实现了脱贫。2018年，老王买了一套豆腐生产设备，利用家里闲置的屋子，每天做豆腐售卖，一天能增加100块左右的收入，日子越过越好。

Once again, he has hope for life. It turned Wang from being passive to being active, and he strived to improve his living conditions. Having income from land, various subsidies and ad-hoc work, Wang got out of poverty in over a year. In 2018, with a room to spare, Wang bought a set of tofu production equipment and started selling it. Selling tofu brings him a net income of 100 yuan a day. His life is getting better.

脱贫后的这几年，老王作为脱贫户的代表，积极地用亲身经历，鼓励其他贫困户靠自己的双手勤劳致富。

In the past few years, Wang has become a spokesperson for poverty alleviation, and uses his experience to encourage other poor families to shake off poverty through hard work.

“咱得积极脱贫，只要稍微努力一点，再加上国家扶贫政策，咱就能做到（脱贫）。”

"We have to be positive. We just have to work a little bit harder. Under the poverty alleviation policy, we can surely make it," said Wang.

在帮助村民增收的同时，政府也注重对老弱人群的关怀和保障。经过多方努力，村里成立了养老中心，老王和他的儿子都符合入住条件。得知儿子以后生活的能有保障，老王多年的心病终于放下了。

Meanwhile, the government also pays attention to the protection of the elderly and the sick. A retirement and care center were set up in the village. Wang and his son are qualified for it. Knowing that his son will be in good hands, Wang was relieved from his biggest anxiety.

“一朝脱贫为劳模，终生奋斗不止步”。今年10月， 王万才获得了国务院扶贫开发领导小组授予的“2020年全国脱贫攻坚奖奋进奖”称号。在国家精准扶贫政策的支持下，更多“老王的脱贫故事”正在抒写新的篇章。

In October, Wang was awarded the "Pioneer of 2020 National Poverty Alleviation" by the State Council's leading group for poverty alleviation and development. With the support of the national targeted poverty alleviation policy, more inspiring stories of poverty alleviation are unfolded.
