城市是全球人口增长、财富创造、能源消耗和环境污染的主要载体。下一个20年城市如何发展将很大程度上决定了我们是否有能力应对这个时代诸如公众健康、气候变化等的主要挑战。因此，在设计领域急需全新的方法和工具来创造一个高性能的城市系统。

然而，当今的城市基础设施设计和城市规划设计策略却不足以应对这些挑战。当今的规划决策指导着千万亿的资金投入，但是这些决定着城市发展命运的决策形成过程却缺乏数据和实证的支撑，这些数据和实证是预测城市性能和复杂的人的活动的关键。

Cities are major carriers of global population growth, wealth creation, energy consumption, and environmental pollution. How cities evolve in the next 20 years will largely determine our ability to meet the major challenges of this era such as public health, climate change, etc. As a result, there is an urgent need for new approaches and tools in the design field to create a high-performance urban system.

However, today's urban infrastructure design and design strategies in urban planning are inadequate to meet these challenges. Today's planning decisions guide trillions of dollars of capital investment, but the processes that shape these decisions that determine the fate of urban development are not supported by the data and empirical evidence that are key to predicting urban performance and complex human activities.

同济大学-麻省理工上海城市科学实验室（City Science Lab @ Shanghai）是由同济大学上海国际设计创新学院与麻省理工学院媒体实验室共同建立，联合实验室聚焦于未来可持续生活方式和产业转型，针对城市交通、智慧生活、社区营造等重点领域，与产业和资本紧密合作，共同推动创新研发和孵化加速，实质贡献上海“四新”经济和科创中心建设。实验室目前与麻省理工以创新项目为依托开展联合研究，共同探索未来的城市出行方式和可持续的社区生活方式，通过对大规模数据的建模与分析以支持设计、科技和产业的创新与转型。

NICE2035 LivingLine:

Deep Urban Vibrancy -NICE2035 Livingline

为了研究城市干预措施如何改变NICE2035项目中社区的活力，我们部署了基于数据的摄像头和WI-FI探测器的解决方案。部署过程和管道已被开发成一个可重复使用的工作流程，帮助研究人员和设计师了解干预的效果，从而支持基于证据的设计。

To study how urban interventions has changed the vibrancy of the neighborhood in NICE2035 project, we deployed data-based solutions with cameras and WI-FI probes. The deployment process and pipelines have been developed into a reuseable workflow assisting researchers and designers to understand effects of intervention and thus supporting an evidence-based design.

随着工业4.0的发展，数据变得更加多样化和容易获取。分析工具使我们能够对各种设计问题有一个经验性的理解。作为一种方法，数据驱动的和基于证据的设计可以被评估，从而被比较和迭代。设计不再是一个主观的创造，而是一个协作优化的决定。在这个高度互动的四周课程中，这是有关数据驱动和循证设计的话题的探讨。
Data has become more diverse andaccessible with Industry 4.0. Analytic tools enable us to have an empirical understanding of various design issues. As an approach, data-driven and evidence-based design can be evaluated, thus being compared and iterated. Design is no longer a subjective creation, but a collaboratively optimized decision.

Equity WITHOUT Zoning: Dynamic Incentive Policies for More Equitable Communities

Equity WITHOUT Zoning是一个模拟平台，用于促进更公平的邻里关系的政策。我们希望解决动态激励政策的重要性和有效性，这是实现公民平衡的关键。本次展览将支持观众参与进这种城市政策的模拟中。

Equity without zoning is a simulation platform for policies promoting more equitable neighbourhood. We hope to address the importance and effectiveness of dynamic incentive policies as the key to achieve civic homeostasis. This exhibition will support visitors to participate in such urban policy simulations.

Sustainable Cities WITH Decentralization

在考虑可持续发展的城市和社区时，必须考虑碳输出。我们能否创造一个分散的城市范式，让社区的每个成员都有机会为可持续发展目标做出贡献，同时获得奖励？这个系统能不能给每个公民提供一个发表意见和做出决定的平台？

在这个工作坊中，参与者将积极参与一个新的过程，设计一个去中心化的系统来解决包括交通选择、能源生产、回收和升级改造以及城市更新等问题。通过建立激励政策、区块链协议和地方代币经济，他们将探索一个分散的城市系统的效率、可能性和运作。利用这个超地方的背景作为测试平台，我们希望能够启动一个工具箱和系统，以激发城市和社区的可持续发展。

When considering sustainable cities and communities one must consider carbon output. Can we create a decentralized urban paradigm, where every member in a community has the chance to contribute to sustainability goals while earning rewards? Can this system empower every citizen with a platform to voice opinions and make decisions?

In this workshop, participants will actively participate in a new process to design a decentralized system to tackle issues including transportation choice, energy production, recycling and upcycling, and urban renewal. Through establishing incentive policies, blockchain protocols and local token economies, they will explore the efficiency, possibilities and operation of a decentralized urban system. Using this hyper-local context as a testbed, we hope to initiate a toolbox and system that can inspire sustainable development of cities and communities.
