A Peek at 10 NEW Major Shenzhen Landmarks Coming Soon
On December 10, 2018, Shenzhen’s “New Top Ten Cultural Facilities” plan, focusing on developing Shenzhen into a first class city, was officially disclosed, and now, the designs for those facilities has just been released.
These include the Shenzhen Opera House, Shenzhen Reform and Opening Exhibition Hall, Shenzhen Creative Design Museum, China National Museum·Shenzhen Pavilion [later renamed Guoshen Museum (temporary name)], Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum [later renamed Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum (new museum) ], Shenzhen Ocean Museum, Shenzhen Natural Museum, Shenzhen Art Museum, Shenzhen Institute of Innovation and Creative Design, and the Shenzhen Conservatory of Music.
Project location: Dongjiaotou area on the bank of Shenzhen Bay, Nanshan District
Area: 175,000 square meters
Building area: about 220,000 square meters

The Shenzhen Opera House will be located in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, on the banks of Shenzhen Bay, at the southern end of Shekou Peninsula and above the Shenzhen Bay Coastal Recreation Belt Park, extending into the sea like a peninsula.

The main building of the Shenzhen Opera House includes an opera hall, a concert hall, a small opera hall, a multifunctional theater, etc.
❐ 2300-seat opera hall: mainly used for opera (including Chinese folk opera), ballet, Chinese folk dance, modern dance and other performances;
❐ 800-seat concert hall: mainly used for symphony concerts, folk music concerts, concert operas, semi-opera and other performances;
❐ 800-seat opera hall: mainly used for comedy opera, operetta, children's opera, opera, modern dance and other performances;

Project location: Futian District, Shenzhen, the central area of Xiangmihu, on the north side of Shennan Avenue, on the central axis of Xiangmihu Shanhai Ecological Corridor.

Together with the International Performing Arts Center on the east and west sides of the mountain and the Shenzhen Financial and Cultural Center, it forms an important public building complex on the Shennan Avenue Xiangmihu Shanhai Green Axis. Shenzhen Creative Design Museum will be located in Shenzhen Bay Cultural Plaza.

The whole project consists of three parts: a roof-covered plaza, a landscape building, and an underground public exhibition space. The north-south exhibition hall complex "Shenzhen Creative Design Hall and Shenzhen Science Life Hall" covers an area of approximately 51,000 square meters, with a total construction area of 182,000 square meters.

Project location: Qianwan Area (Linhai), Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone, Shenzhen
Total construction area: about 120,000 square meters
The project of the National Museum of China and Shenzhen includes permanent exhibition halls, special exhibition halls and temporary exhibition halls, cultural relics collection warehouse and supporting rooms.
Project location: Guangming Science City
Total construction area: about 125,000 square meters

The Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum will be located in the Guangming Science City and will become an important project in the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Corridor.
Project location: New large area of Dapeng New District
Total building area: about 108,000 square meters
The Shenzhen Oceanographic Museum is located in the Xinda area of Dapeng New District, backed by Qiniang Mountain, facing Longqi Bay in the north, and Xindahe Wetland in the east.
This will be a comprehensive marine museum that integrates collection, research, display, and popular science functions as well as a display center, a marine cultural education center, and a marine scientific and a research center.
"The plan uses the concept of'clouds on the sea' to show the depict 'floating architecture'... the soft and free architectural form is closely integrated with the unique environment of the Dapeng Peninsula, organically connecting the surrounding mountains, sea, wetlands, and urban landscape.

Project site: Yanzihu area, Pingshan District, Shenzhen
Total construction area: about 100,000 square meters
The Shenzhen Natural History Museum will be located in the Yanzihu area of Pingshan District, Shenzhen. The planned construction area of the building is about 42,000 square meters. The total construction area is tentatively scheduled for 100,000 square meters.
As an extension of the public park network, the goal of the museum is to expand the green area as much as possible. A great place for outdoor activities from jogging in the morning to walking in the evening.
The exterior of the venue is like a river flowing down. Visitors are guided into the passage leading to the cave, towards the hall of the museum, passing through a number of cafes and public spaces, and finally reaching the center of the building.
Project location: Shenzhen North Railway Station Central Business District
Building area: 65660 square meters
The new Shenzhen Art Museum will have a building area of 65,660 square meters, including a collection library, various exhibition halls, lecture halls, event spaces and supporting functional areas. The new museum will be positioned as a large-scale modern, international, and digital comprehensive museum integrating collection, exhibition, research, communication, education, and promotion.

Project location: Fenghuang Mountain Plot, Hangcheng Street, Baoan District, Shenzhen
Total construction area: about 340,000 square meters
Shenzhen Institute of Innovation and Creative Design will be built into an international, high-level, innovative and practical world-class design school.
Project location: International University Park, Longgang District , Shenzhen
Total construction area: about 129,700 square meters
The project is located in the International University Park of Longgang District, close to the campus of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen). Most of the existing sites are sports stadiums. Demolition of the existing buildings on the site will take place before the implementation of the project. The total land area of the project is about 73,800 square meters, and the total construction area is about 129,700 square meters.
The main design content of the Shenzhen Conservatory of Music includes: classrooms, experimental and practice rooms, libraries, halls, student dormitories, canteens, teachers’ living rooms, performance venues ( including 700 theaters and 500 concert halls that can hold international category A music competitions) , And 200-seat rehearsal hall ) and full-time research rooms (Music Technology Center, Music Management Center, Music Therapy Center, and Music Sociology Center).
