一、微博掐架定律:一个关于网络社会心理机制的素描

互联网的“掐架”,距离人类理想讨论有多远?这一幅网络社会心理的众生相,你,能看得明白吗?通过观察和思考,我们发现互联网“掐架”遵循如下定律:

1.分歧倍增定律:如果双方观点有分歧,那么,每一次掐架之后,分歧都将倍增. 

2.镜像定律:那个喜欢与你掐架、且你也喜欢与他掐架的人(人群),通常与你(你们)颇为相似。

3.排斥第三方定律:掐架只会有正、反方;如果出现任何第三方,那么他将会同时被正反方误以为是对方。

二、像爱护爱豆一样爱国:新媒体与“粉丝民族主义”的诞生

本文以“帝吧出征”为例,从传播学的角度探讨了传播技术对民族主义的影响.研究发现,新媒体技术不仅改变了民族主义运动的表达方式、组织动员方式、实施方式,而且还消融了政治运动、追星、游戏、个人身份建构等行为的边界,使得民族主义以“粉丝民族主义”的新面貌出现.反过来,新一代网络民族主义者也在时间、空间和语言三个方面成功地驯化了新媒体,使之成为民族主义的一部分.对此类现象不宜做简单否定,应该看到新媒体技术、商业文化与民族主义之间的复杂关系,从文化的视角去观察新一代民族主义者对新媒体的驯化。

三、为媒介技术决定论正名:兼论传播思想史的新视角

长期以来,“技术决定论”作为一种污名化的标签,常被用以攻击强调技术重要性的一切理论观点。然而这通常批评的是来自政界、业界和智库式学者的“媒介乌托邦”思想,真正学术意义上的技术决定论远非实证研究的学者们想像得那么狭隘,也决不是一种简单的因果关系推论。

所谓的媒介技术决定论是指人类被悬置于媒介技术营建的环境之中,其观念和行为受制于媒介化环境的限定,因媒介技术的变革而重构。这种视角对传播思想史研究特别有启发。事实上,任何一种成功的新媒介在登上历史舞台时,都会对当时的社会文化、社会观念产生冲击并进而发生观念与文化的变迁。传播思想史的历史使命便是将传播技术作为一种整体介质和生存环境,并以此为起点来讨论它如何建构公众与世界尤其是公众与社会之间的关系,它如何不断建构公众头脑中的观念,媒介技术系统与社会文化系统之间是如何调校彼此关系的。在这个传播技术发展已经严重失控的时代,正视和重估传播技术决定论理论价值的那一天终将来。

一、Road to International Publications: an Empirical Study of Chinese Communication Scholars(外文期刊之路:一个关于中国传播学者的经验研究)

This paper examines factors motivating Chinese communication scholars to publish in international journals and how these factors shape their knowledge production. We also investigate these scholars’ treatment of particularity, which is central to debates on Asian approaches to communication scholarship. Based on in-depth interviews with 22 Chinese communication scholars, this study finds that Chinese scholars choose to publish overseas both as a result of institutional incentives and an attempt to relieve themselves from institutional and sociopolitical constraints in China. While promoting international publications, these institutional and sociopolitical factors also markedly influence the knowledge production process, leading to the segregation of international and local knowledge production; scholars’ active self-censorship; and their efforts to subject to perceived international biases. The study also demonstrates that while adopting an eclectic and pragmatic attitude toward particularity, Chinese communication scholars are generally cautious of advocating particularity. The attitudinal and behavioral eclecticism and institutional and sociopolitical constraints jointly result in a fragmented particularity in the international publication of Chinese communication scholars. The findings’ implications for Asian approaches to communication studies are discussed.

二、Headlines Matter: Using Headlines to Predict the Popularity of News Articles on Twitter and Facebook(标题很重要!我们用标题预测了一下推特和脸书上的新闻文章热度)

Social media like Facebook or Twitter have become an entry point to news for many readers. In that scenario, the headline is the most prominent – and often the only visible – part of the news article. We propose a novel task of using only headlines to predict the popularity of news articles. The prediction model is evaluated on headlines from two major broadsheet news outlets – The Guardian and New York Times. We significantly improve over several baselines, noting differences in the model performance between Facebook and Twitter.

三、“You’re Not Welcome Here”: A Grounded Theory of Family Distancing(“这儿不欢迎你”:关于家庭疏远的扎根理论)

A constructivist grounded theory of family distancing emerged from the narrative accounts of 52 adult children in the process of estrangement from their parents. The grounded theory conceptualizes estrangement as a continuum comprised of eight components: (1) communication quality, (2) communication quantity, (3) physical distance, (4) presence/absence of emotion, (5) positive/negative affect, (6) reconciliation/desire to be a family, (7) role reciprocity, and (8) legal action. In addition, 10 communicative behaviors are identified that can help family members move along the estrangement continuum toward greater distance or maintain their position. Together they interplay to constitute a holistic picture of the estrangement process. Scholarly uses, theoretical implications, and practical applications will be discussed.
