与商业漫画相比,独立漫画一直是个松散的群体,这一群体中年龄最大的成员出生于社会开放初期,他们大多赶上了独生子女潮,有着共同的特点:自我、爱幻想、去英雄主义、喜欢隔绝的都市生活,丰富的日本、欧美漫画资源……作为成年人的他们常常迷恋童年,同时又会“透过童年世界反观社会规则。”生长于社会转型期,他们看似逃避着现实世界,内心和行为又时刻在“新与旧”“现代与传统”“西方与东方”“自我与集体”“物欲与精神”这些二元对立的价值观之间切换、徘徊。


Indie comics artists, compared with commercial comics artists, have always been in a loose group. The oldest members of this group, most of whom are the only child of the family, were born in the early days of China’s Reform and Opening. They all have something in common: self-centered, full of imagination, believe in anti-heroism, in favor of isolated urban life, and be surrounded with abundant comic resources from Japan, Europe and America… As adults, they are often obsessed with their childhood, and at the same time, “viewing this society through the eyes of children.” Growing up in a country when it is going through rapid social changes, they seem to want to escape from the reality. However, their actions and minds are always in dilemmas between "the new and the old", "the modern and the traditional", "the West and the East", "the individual and the collective", and "material desires and spiritual needs".

 

独立漫画通常集图像、文本和出版于一身,像拿破仑蛋糕一样的层层叠加、口感甜腻是大多数人对独立漫画的简单印象,事实上独立漫画艺术家更多会从社会现实的角度出发,用图像传达隐藏的线索,再带领观众走进自己布置的幽秘世界,或者说是在试图唤起沉默的想象力重新看待日常生活。与其他艺术不同的是,漫画艺术往往需要具备理性的能力,逻辑严密地组合、拆解一个故事,搭建一个依靠图像来连接、延续文本的结构。


Generally speaking, indie comics are a combination of images, texts and publications. At the first sight, most people would be impressed by the multiple layers and sweetness of the contents, which are just like Napoleon cakes. As a matter of fact, however, independent comic artists intend to use images to convey hidden clues, lead the readers into a secret world, or to try to stimulate imagination and inspire their readers to look at their daily lives from a new angle. Rational thinking is an essential requirement of comics, which is different from any other form of art. In other words, cosmic artists need to have the ability to logically create and disassemble a story based on images.

 

艺术家能尖日毕业于中央美术学院和中国美院,她的作品充满想象力和张力,美院科班出身的她并没有延续学院传统的写实手法,而是通过变形,甚至超现实主义的创作方式去打造了一个完全属于个人风格的“王国”,而艺术家本人就是这个王国里的“大王”。大约从14年开始,能尖日开始“解剖”漫画故事和由此产生的图像,在作品“藕书”中,她尝试“把客观世界中的事物通过手工印刷转化成图像,通过做书再利用叙事转换成另一个非客观世界中的相对事物,从而实现叙事的一个重要功能——构建一个可能的世界。”这种“非常规叙事方式”成为她作品的独特形式,从而引申出一个重要的问题——一个“故事”能否具有形状?


Nhozagri graduated from China Academy of Fine Arts and China Academy of Art. Her art works are full of imagination and tension. She is devoted to unconventional narrative forms rather than traditional art styles. Based on image transformation and even surrealism, she has created a “Kingdom” of her own personal style, and she is the “Queen” in it. From about 14 years ago, Nhozagri has begun to ‘dissect’ her comic stories and their related images. In her work Book of Lotus Roots, she tried to “create images with objective things using hand-printing techniques, and then, by making up a story with these images, transform them into things that do not exist in the real world. Thus she has realized an important function of narrative: to build a possible world.” This “unconventional narrative form” has become a unique feature of her work, which poses a crucial question: Can a "story" have a shape?


象牙塔毕业于北京电影学院,她的作品结构严谨、理性克制、蕴含力量,充满神秘气息,动画专业出身的象牙塔常常在作品中塑造一个摄像机式人物(大多是小女孩儿的形象),这个小女孩不断跳跃带领观众进入不同的空间,就像是自己潜意识里的梦幻之地,她的漫画故事并没有跌宕起伏的剧情,似梦游一样转换在不同的场景之间,这些场景奇异古怪,并被象牙塔用微镜头一样的描绘方式不断放大、缩小或是抽离,就像电影“盗梦空间”中的陀螺,几乎永远没有停止的可能,娴熟的技术和镜头的运用都体现了象牙塔对时间、空间的把握,故事本身则仅仅是个导火索而已。


Xiang Yata (Zhu Hui) graduated from Beijing Film Academy. Her works are rigorous, rational, restrained, powerful and full of mystery. Majored in Animation Art, Xiang Yata often creates a camera-like character (mostly an image of a little girl) in her works. This little girl keeps jumping around and leads the audience into different spaces, like a dreamland in our subconscious. There are no ups and downs in her comic stories. It’s like sleepwalking with her in bizarre and constantly changing scenes, which are depicted like images captured with a micro lens by zooming in, zooming out or withdrawing. Just like the gyro in the movie Pirates of the Dream, this almost never stops. Her skillful techniques and the use of the lens reflect Xiang Yata's mature understanding of time and space. The story in her art is just an appetizer.


此次展览不仅展示了能尖日和象牙塔对漫画两种不同的研究方法,并将两个人几乎长达十年的创作过程一并呈现,象牙塔用十年时间创作了一部实验漫画《验光》,并且这个故事还没有结束;能尖日用将近十年时间把“故事”与“图像”进行了不同维度的分析。她们从不同层面拓宽、纵深了漫画这一形式的承载内核。有意思的是,展览“拿破仑”的场地Mstudio紧邻黑桥幼儿园,因为政府拆迁,黑桥本身已经成为荒芜的孤岛,正像法国皇帝拿破仑被流放于孤岛一样,人类命运也许始终逃脱不了孤独和幻灭。
This exhibition not only shows the difference between the research methods of Nhozagri and Xiang Yata on comics, but also presents the creation processes of these two artists during almost ten years. Xiang Yata has devoted ten years to create an experimental comic named Optometry, and the story is not finished yet. Meanwhile, Nhozagri has analyzed "the story" and "the image" in different dimensions for almost ten years. They both broadened and deepened the meaning of comics from different levels. Interestingly, Mstudio, the venue of the exhibition Napoleon, which is adjacent to the Black Bridge Kindergarten, has become an isolated island because of the government demolition. Like the French emperor Napoleon who was exiled to a remote island, the human destiny as well, may never escape from loneliness and disillusionment.

跳绳∞——四维跳绳过程的二维图

跳绳运动,跳绳的人在运动过程中被绳子运动轨迹所形成的球形包围,跳绳的人是跳绳运动的“核”。不仅仅是这样,我们需要从更高的维度看它,站在第五维,我们可以看见运动过程中整个跳绳的轨迹形成一个球体。恩对,这是一个四维的球体。在第四维看,整个从头到尾的跳绳过程是一个四维跳绳球体的横截面。这张画不是一个跳绳动作的瞬间,是一个跳绳的从头到尾的过程的瞬间。

同时,跳绳运动具有偶然性,游戏的失败会导致跳绳球体的消失;这个过程非常像一个气泡,可变,美丽,转瞬即逝。


象牙塔作品


《验光》这个系列的漫画创作自2010年第一篇刊登在瑞士漫画杂志"Strapagzin"上,因为这次的约稿,开启了接下来延续至今8年仍在继续的创作。

 

这部作品由两百多页漫画组成,虽然画面是采用了漫画分格的形式,但是内容大多并不是传统的故事性叙述,而是描绘了我对世界视觉化的认知和理解,记录了这些年我对视觉这个概念一步步由浅入深的思考和如探险一般的试验各种可能性。把二维的平面纸上空间转化成多维多层次多线性共同存在的平行世界,在现实世界的一秒一立方厘米时空里面展开爆破出来。

象牙塔(朱慧)


85年,自由艺术家,毕业于北京电影学院,现生活工作于北京。漫画作品多次刊登于《SC特别漫画》《strapagzin》(瑞士)《艺术世界》等刊物杂志。个人动画短片作品《红领巾和练习本》获第十届北京电影学院动画学院学院奖最佳新人奖。

 

Xiang Yata (Zhu Hui)  was born in Hunan in 1985 and graduated fromBeijing Film Academy with a BA degree in Animation Art in 2009, now lives andworks in Beijing. 

Xiang Yata's comic work regularly publishedin Special Comic and Art World Magazine. Her animation work Red Scarf andExerciese Book was awarded Best New Artist in 10th Fest of Department Animationof BFA.
