Org. Setting and Reporting
Under the overall authority of the Gender Officer with in the Strategic, Policy and Development Section (SPDS), Police Division (PD), Office of the Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI) the Intern supports the work of this Team. In 2009, the Police Division launched a Global Effort initiative that called for increasing the participation of female police officers in peacekeeping to 20 per cent from 7 per cent. Female police peacekeepers in United Nations field missions emphasized the importance of role models and positive stories in overcoming the main obstacles linked to general lack of awareness about peacekeeping opportunities and the specific contributions women make in peacekeeping. In this vein the Police Division is launching a campaign entitled ‘Women Police for Peace’. A consultant is being sought to develop the campaign materials below.
Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance of the Chief of the Strategic Policy and Development Section of the Police Division/OROLSI/DPKO and the direct supervision the Gender Affairs Officer, the intern will:
• Collect existing footage, assist in organizing focus group meetings, drafting the script and editing a promotional video explaining the operational effectiveness of mixed police units. The video will focus on the Women Police for Peace campaign and how diversity through the presence of both male and female police officers make a difference in peacekeeping operations.
• Assist in drafting an internal and external communication strategy for the Women Police for Peace campaign and implementing it.
• Assist in finalizing a standardized information package on the recruitment of female police officers for deployment to peace operations. The package includes United Nations Police recruitment criteria, processes and procedures for (1) individual police officers (IPOs); (2) Formed Police Units (FPUs); and (3) contracted professional posts. Convert the package into e-learning through Articulate Storyline.
• Draft and conduct surveys with currently deployed female police peacekeepers in field missions on (a) examples of operational effectiveness of mixed police units; (b) incentives to attract female police officers to serve in peace operations.
• Provide academic research for the finalization of the UN Police Standardized Training Curriculum on Prevention and Investigation of Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV) in post conflict environments.
• Provide academic research for the development of the senior female police leadership preparatory course.
• Organize video telephone conferences (VTC) with field missions and drafting of meeting minutes of the UNPOL Gender Network.
• Prepare graphic materials for presentations.
• Organize workshops including preparing materials and communications with participants and instructors.
• Perform any other task as required.

Education
Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second-level university or higher); be enrolled in the final academic year of a first level university degree programme (minimum Bachelors or equivalent); or have graduated with a university degree and, if , must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. Be computer literate in standard software applications; have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and have demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. Exposure related to political affairs, mass communications, journalism, international studies or gender studies.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship position fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.

Responsibilities
The intern will assist with the implementation of the HIV/AIDS Section programme of work as it relates to UNODC mandate on HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care and support related to (a) drug use in particular injecting drug use and (b) prison settings.
More specifically, the intern will:
•Assist the HIV team with the review and drafting of technical publications, project documents, briefing materials and other documents. In doing so, the intern will ensure that a human-rights based-approach is adopted,
•Support the HIV team with the organization of events in Vienna (including the World AIDS Day). The intern may be expected to attend sessions, gather documentation, attend side events and report back to the HIV Team,
•Assist the HIV team in updating HIV related country profiles (research and drafting skills required), including developing new infographics,
•Assist the team with the drafting of web stories and other materials to be published on UNODC’s website, as well as other social media related tasks
•Perform other tasks as necessary.
