《傲慢与偏见》是简奥斯汀最著名的小说。通过描写婚姻问题展示了当时英国社会的生活画面。故事围绕贝内特（Bennet）一家几个女儿的婚姻大事展开。从伦敦新搬来的单身汉阔少宾利先生（Mr. Bingley）爱上了温柔美貌的大女儿简，他的朋友达西（Darcy）则倾情于二女儿伊丽莎白（Elizabeth）。这部小说反映了当时英国妇女争取婚姻自主的愿望与理想。《傲慢与偏见》虽然有好几个版本，但是95年BBC版的才是最接近原著的一部电视剧。2005版电影也超级经典。
