Studio Alpha 每月不定期推出国际设计竞赛或者由SA老师自命题的Open Project供同学们来充实自己的作品集。涉猎范围包含建筑、景观、城市设计。为了鼓励大家的互相协作,并提升学生的主观能动性,竞赛都以1-4人组队报名为单位。SA的竞赛或者Open Project 对于每个学生都可以公平报名申请,老师选拔合适的同学参与。历时从2周至6周不等,只针对SA学员,大多数在使用一对一课时兑换后即可免费参加。SA每年生源有40%来自老八校,15%来自欧美院校,45%来自国内重点大学。学员间自由组队,和志同道合、旗鼓相当的小伙伴们一起参与OP设计。


过去一年,SA为19Fall学员开设了41个Open Project。截至2019年7月2日,SA新年已经上线了25个专属20Fall学员的OPSA自4月24日起开始发布Open Project Plus (OP+),在OP+的设计讨论中邀请世界上最活跃的相关领域的前沿学者或工作者,顶尖的院校教职人员来进行Guest Critic,并与同学交流。SA OP系列是我们邀请相关设计领域的最优秀学者和从业者为给同学设计和作品集水平加分的专题小班课程,我们希望需要的同学都能找到最适合自己的OP,所以在每个OP开始前都会有个双向选择的过程,帮助我们控制OP队伍的构成以获得最佳产出。

Curve-folding Based Semiology

基于弯折的符号学



课程介绍

Architecture is a system of communication with a unique social function: to order and frame communicative interaction. Social order depends on spatial order. The built environment spontaneously evolves into a system of signification, which consists of the semiotic clues (morphological features, colors, textures, environmental parameters, etc.) that constitute and characterize a certain territory can influence the behavioral mode of the agent. 


建筑是一种交流系统,它具备组织与建立交流互动空间的独特社会功能。社会秩序依赖于空间秩序。建成环境自发演变为一种指意系统,即构成和塑造能够影响主体的行为模式的建成环境的符号线索(形态特征、颜色、纹理、环境参数等)

Form and function have always been the two key words of architecture. Whether to start from form or function, it must be the subject of exploration by each architectural student. This open project will continue the semiology research led by ZHA Principal Patrik Schumacher in AADRL and GSD. We will explore the use of forms to define functions, use three-dimensional spatial symbols to represent complex meanings, and rethink the language of architecture.


形式与功能,一直是建筑的两大关键词,是先形式还是先功能,必定是每个建筑学子所探索的课题,而本次符号学的OP,将延续扎哈事务所Principal Patrik Schumacher在AADRL与GSD的符号学研究,将探索用形式来定义功能,用三维的空间符号来代表复杂含义,重新思考建筑这门语言。



All designs are about communication. This topic will require students to start with a study of visual language. For example, on the football court, each boundary has a direct corresponding meaning, each sign in the traffic symbol means a kind of traffic rule, which in turn guide the user's behavior. By studying this relationship, we convert it into the semiology of the building and build a language system, just like a dictionary, each Chinese character has its corresponding meaning. We define the spatial semiology from 2D to 3D with their functions and attributes. We will use the method of curve folding as form finding research to design symbolic vocabulary. Curve folding is the process of folding a flat sheet of material along a curved crease for creating 3D shapes. The concepts of this method would be introduced physically and digitally and participants would be encouraged to incorporate both in their design thinking and making. By curve folding , different semiology should be distinguished by two related systems. On the basis of the vocabulary, we will need to further define the grammar, to organize the vocabulary, arrange and combine the sentences into sentences, by bridging, interlocking, overlapping, etc.,to build an information-rich environment.


所有的设计都是交流的设计,本次课题将要求学生先从一种视觉语言的研究出发,例如在球场上,每一个边界的划定都有很直接对应的含义,在交通符号中每个标志也都有直接对应的交通规则,从一定程度又引导着使用者的行为,通过对这种关系的研究,我们将其转翻译为建筑的符号,制定一个语言的系统,就如制定一本词典一样,每一个汉字都有其对应的含义,同样地定义分别二维到三维的空间符号所对应的使用功能以及属性。我们将结合弯折的方式辅助找形, 曲面弯折是沿着弯曲折痕,折叠平板材料以创建三维形状的过程, 这种方法的概念将通过电子与实体模型上引入,参与者将被鼓励将两者结合在他们的设计思维和制作中。通过此种找形方式来设计符号词汇,符号学设计须通过建立两个相互关联的区分系统来进行,而在基础词汇的基础上,我们将需要进一步定义语法,来组织词汇,排列组合成句子,通过例如桥接、嵌套、重叠等语法来组织所定义的词汇,从而构造一个信息丰富的环境。



In this OP, the students will choose their own design scale, either based on city scale or based on interior scale. After the OP, students still need to continue to develop the projects.


本次OP学生将自行选择设计尺度,可基于城市尺度,或基于室内尺度。结束后学生仍需继续发展项目,进行深化设计。

Two weeks, every Wednesday from 8:00PM to 10:00PM, every Saturday and Sunday from 2pm to 8pm;

4-6 people, 2 people each team;   

4-6人,每组2 人;

仅限SA内部学员报名。


课程安排

The first session will be an introductory lecture, which tutor will present relevant cases, after that, students should start visual language research;  In the second section, tutor will assist in technical part, based on the curve-folding method to find form, and then develop based on the Maya platform, We will use the core skills to assist in rapid design, the tutor will be there to assist students in this topic, we will focus on the process from research to design to the physical model, and at the end we should present the physical results through 3d printing, etc.


第一节课为开题讲座,将剖析相关案例,之后学生将开始视觉语言的研究,第二节会进行技术辅导,基于curve-folding 的方式,思考形体的生成,而后基于Maya平台去推敲(零基础可参加),用最核心的技巧来辅助快速设计,老师在一旁进行辅导与疑难问答,本次课题将侧重于从研究到设计再到制作实体模型的流程,最终需要通过3d打印等方式来呈现作品。

Class 2 (周六)  :Visual language review 视觉语言研究,Maya Tutorial入门教学 (6h)

Class 3 (周日):Physical和Digital的Curve-folding Based Semiology基于弯折的符号学设计 (6h)


Week 2

Class 1 (周三) :Interim review 中期汇报(2h)

Class 2 (周六)  :Project development, grammar design of the semiology 作品深化,符号的语法设计 (6h)

Class 3 (周日):Final review以及physical model准备 (6h)
