Mandarin Team - Elementary School 中文教学 - 小学部

When students study at International schools, more and more parents pay attention to the Chinese programs being offered. At CISB, our students have a Mandarin class every day. In these classes, students can learn all aspects of Mandarin skills as well as develop an understanding of Chinese culture. In this issue, we prepared some common questions that parents often have and invited Ms. Sun, the CSL Department Head, to help answer them.

在选择上国际学校的同时，越来越多家长注重学校的中文课程。在CISB，学生们每天都有一节中文课。在课堂上，他们不仅可以全方面学习中文基础，还能了解中国历史悠久的文化。在这一期，我们问了一些家长们普遍关心的问题，邀请到了我校小学部中文组组长孙老师，来帮助解答家们心中的疑惑。

What subject(s) do you teach at CISB? Could you introduce your team?

你在CISB教哪门课？向我们介绍下你的组员？

I teach fluent level Mandarin in elementary school. At CISB elementary school, we have six Mandarin teachers and 2 teacher assistant who teach and support students Mandarin learning from kindergarten to grade 5. 

我是小学部中文组老师，我专门负责教高级流利班的老师。在CISB小学部，我们中文组总共有6名中文教师和2名助教老师，他们会教授从幼儿园到5年级学生的中文课程。

What type of learning do you cover in class? Do you have any interesting activities? What are they?

课堂中都会涉及哪些内容知识？ 有安排哪些有趣的活动？都有什么？

At our elementary school, Mandarin learning and teaching involves two areas, Mandarin language skills and culture. The Mandarin framework includes listening and speaking, reading, writing, viewing and presenting, as well as culture. In culture units, we focus on inquiry into Chinese culture, as well as encourage students to appreciate different cultures. As a IB school, the inquiry teaching and learning happens all the time through Mandarin class.

在我校小学阶段，学习中文和教学分为两部分。一个是中文语言的学习，另一个是文化背景的理解。中文语言的学习内容包括听、说、读、写、观察、表述以及文化等。在学习文化背景过程中，我们注重对中国文化的探究和鼓励学生去欣赏不同文化。CISB作为一所IB学校，在中文课堂的学习中，我们会让学生进行探究的方法去学习中文。

In order to understand local Chinese culture, do you have any fields trips ? Where do you usually go?

为了更好的了解中国当地文化，我们会安排相关的外出郊游活动么？通常都会组织去哪里？

Yes, we have many field trips to provide students opportunities to explore Chinese culture. We visit places such as the ceramic museum, the Prince Kung’s Mansion, China National Film Museum etc.

 是的。为了更好的探索中国文化，学生们可以通过郊游的形式，了解到当地的人文历史。如去陶瓷博物馆、恭王府、中国电影博物馆等。

Chinese New Year is coming soon, do you have any special celebrations for it in class? Or is there any event at school?

中国春节即将到来，在班里有组织各种庆祝活动么？全校内有什么特殊活动安排？

Every year we hold a school-wide Chinese New Year Family Fun Night event to celebrate the Chinese New Year, which is also a great opportunity for our students and families to explore Chinese culture. 

每年我们都会举办一场全校性的“中式家庭活动日”来庆祝中国的春节，这也是一次非常好的机会，能让学生和家人们一起探索中国文化。

CISB is made up a lot of different nationalities, how do you help students with different levels of Mandarin skills?

在CISB中我们有来自世界各地的学生，如何来帮助这些学生学习中文？

Our students with different Mandarin language skills are differentiated into 4 levels: beginning, intermediate, advanced and fluent. Students have their Mandarin lessons basing on this level. 

我们把中文课分为4个等级：初级、中级、高级和流利。学生们的分班情况，会根据他们中文的语言能力来进行分班。

What suggestions do you have to help students develop their Chinese skills at home?

如何能帮助孩子在家提高中文学习，你有什么什么好的建议？

I strongly suggest students to read Chinese books every day as reading is a crucial part for any language learning. Parents can help students to build up reading habits from a very young age by reading to them or reading with them. If Mandarin is your second language, using the language is very important in real life, so parents could ask kids to help translation or encourage them to communicate in Chinese in real life situation, such as shopping, online ordering, asking direction, restaurant orders, etc. 

我的建议是让学生每天读一些中文书，因为在学习任何语言中，阅读是十分重要的。父母可以帮助学生从小建立养成阅读习惯，给他们读一些中文读物。同时，作为第二语言，能让学生们在日常生活中练习也是十分重要的。父母可以让孩子们帮助进行中英文翻译或鼓励他们用汉语交流，如购物，网上订购，问路，餐厅点餐等。
