内容摘要
In the field of education, second language education in particular, the concept of love has received little attention despite its essential contribution to the emotional and learning outcomes of learners and its impact on teacher work engagement and wellbeing. Indeed, the nascent literature on pedagogical love strongly suggests that it is an undervalued, even neglected, aspect of teaching, even though I would argue it should be of central concern if one is to truly care about their learners’ success and lives. The renowned educator, Paulo Freire put it this way, “…it is not possible to be a teacher without loving one’s students, even realizing that love alone is not enough. It is not possible to be a teacher without loving teaching.” In contrast, the concept of creativity has recently flourished in the field of second language education and applied linguistics and the ever-expanding body of research on the topic has made teachers more cognizant of its benefits to the language learning experience. Nonetheless, while an understanding of its importance has progressed, its link to teacher work engagement is still not well understood. This presentation will examine the relationship between these three constructs, pedagogical love, creativity, and work engagement, in the field of ELT. The talk will begin with an overview of these constructs and how they may be defined in language teaching before explaining the early findings of a large-scale multinational/multicultural study examining how love and creativity correlate with each other, and what they suggest about teacher work engagement and wellbeing.

内容摘要
With increasing numbers of language teachers and scholars investigating L2 writing in a diverse range of settings, we have opportunities to adapt and develop methodologies from other contexts and disciplines, yet dominant methodological constructs in English L2 research continue to prevail. We should rely less on the major design methodologies, taking risks with more creative ones. I argue we need to embrace the ‘messiness’ of L2 writing education, without the pressure of situating it in discussions in the literature dominated by the same tired constructs.
