 TESOL Quarterly (TQ) is seeking proposals from prospective guest editors for the 2025 special topic issue.  Proposals are chosen by the TQ Editorial Advisory Board, and the guest editor(s) are responsible for overseeing the review process and selecting the content of the issue. The issue will appear in September 2025.  Successful proposals have an overarching theme that is timely and interesting to the TQ readership.  Examples of previous special issues are:

    • 2011: Narrative Research in TESOL

    • 2013: Plurilingualism in TESOL
    • 2014: K-12 Standards-Based Educational Reform: Implications for Immigrant and Indigenous English Language Learner Populations
    • 2015: Multimodality in TESOL
    • 2016: Language Teacher Identity in Multilingual Education
    • 2017: Complementary Perspectives on Task-based Classroom Realities
    • 2018: At the Cross-roads of TESOL and English Medium Instruction
    • 2020: Equity for English Learners in Dual Language Bilingual Education
    • 2021: Linguistically Responsive Instruction in Higher Education
    • 2022: Digital Literacies in TESOL: Mapping Out the Terrain
    • 2023: Teaching English in a Time of Resurgent Nationalism
    • 2024: Global Englishes and TESOL
    • 2024: Assessing the Effectiveness of Corpus-based Approaches to English Language Teaching




    Proposals should include the following information:



    • Need and rationale for this special issue (double-spaced, 3 pages)
    • Possible specific topics of inquiry (double-spaced, 3 pages)
    • Potential contributors
    • Call for abstracts for the issue (1 page)
    • Curriculum Vitae of the guest editor(s) (Maximum of two guest editors)

    For a sample proposal, or to submit a proposal, please contact Charlene Polio or Peter De Costa. Please note that an applicant may submit only one proposal; an applicant may not be listed on multiple submissions. The editors will provide the outline of a special issue and more detailed information for proposals. All proposals should be emailed to both polio@msu.edu and pdecosta@msu.edu no later than August 15, 2023.
