If You're Green, You're Clear. If not, well... here's what to do

ShekouDaily 2020-08-18

Whether you've recently arrived back to China or not, or have already conducted some form of quarantine, you may be asked to take a nucleic acid test or go into quarantine at your own expense. Here's how to check your status and requirements, the cost of conducting testing, and where to do so, if needed.

Shenzhen has been using an app called iShenzhen to track people during this novel coronavirus pnemonia pandemic. Other cities in China have similar apps as well that perform the same function. To check your status in Shenzhen, scan the code below and follow the steps to check what color code comes up for you.

  1. Scan the Code above to enter the iShenzhen mini program in WeChat;

  2. If you've already filled this out, click the first option; if not, click the second to fill out the declaration form. Click here for a guide to completing the declaration form.

After completion, you'll be presented with your color code to determine whether you need to be isolated and or tested.

The color coding system has been adopted for classifying health codes according to different health risk states. Generally speaking, the green code represents no abnormality, yellow code represents medium risk and red code represents high risk.

If your code is green, as shown in Figure 1 and that masked blue character appears, it means that you are clear;

If your code is yellow, as shown in Figure 2 and that masked blue character is not shown, it means that you need to cooperate with the staff to verify the information through "scanning";

If your code is red, as shown in Figure 3 and some text appears, it means that you are a confirmed patient, suspected patient or require isolation. Please see a doctor or isolate as soon as possible.

Note: In some cases, if you don't have a health code, or a red code or a yellow Code appears, you may need to carry out nucleic acid testing and receive 14 days of centralized isolation medical observation at your own expense.

The definition and requirements of the codes vary from area to area; for example, the above applies for those in Shenzhen; however, the national government affairs service platform has launched this "epidemic prevention health information code", in most areas of the country to achieve a "one code access". Generally speaking, throughout China, green codes allow you to move freely.

In Shanghai, yellow code refers to persons who have been in Shanghai for less than 14 days, and are recommended for observation; while the red code refers to persons who have not completed medical management measures, who have not been diagnosed and discharged, who are suspected to have not been quarantined, and the personnel who have lived in key countries or regions within 14 days, and are being recommended for isolatation.

At present, 29 hospitals in Shenzhen are providing services for the public to conduct new coronavirus nucleic acid testing.

Cost of Testing

Here's an example of the cost of testing in case you are asked to do so. The nucleic acid screening clinic at the University of Hong Kong Hospital of Shenzhen, is open from 8:00-20:00 daily. The outpatient fee is 100 yuan / person / time, and the nucleic acid screening fee is 160 yuan / person / time, totaling 260 yuan. The result are generally provided within 24 hours. Costs may vary at other hospitals.
