New WeChat Update: 30-Sec Vids in Moments, 999 Stickers & More

Yesterday afternoon, WeChat released an update to their iOS client. The new version 8.0.3 has some long awaited features. Let's take a look...

Moments Now Accepts Videos up to 30 seconds in Length

Previously, you could only post videos of no more than 15 seconds long in your WeChat Moments without using other third party apps. Now, however, you can post 30 second videos and WeChat has even added an editing feature to help you trim down videos that may be too long to post.

How many Custom stickers do you have?

Another change that will surely get many excited is that WeChat has just expanded the limit of custom stickers from 300 to 999! No need to search through and delete old stickers to be able to add new ones... at least for a while.

There are also a few other minor improvements

Swipe down while in your chat list to find that a search box has been added, the "More" option has been moved to the upper right corner, and 8 recently used mini-programs are now displayed.

Live broadcast and nearby notification toggles

In your WeChat settings > message notification section, a new "live streams & nearby" toggle has been added at the bottom. After switching this off, you will no longer see the red dot notifications for live and nearby broadcasts.

Official account search page

Searching for or within official accounts has improved and now provides more concise results.

Emojis display while composing

Now when you add emojis to your message, you can also see them directly in the composition window instead of just their names in brackets.

Sorry Android Users

Unfortunately, these updates are currently only in the iOS client so Android users will need to be patient and wait a while. Hopefully it won't be long.
