Neil: Hello and welcome to The English We Speak. In this programme we have an expressionwhich you can use when you are under a lot of pressure. I'm Neil and joining me is Feifei.

尼尔：大家好，欢迎收听地道英语节目。在本期节目中，我们将教大家一个在压力很大时可以使用的表达方式。我是尼尔，今天和我一起主持节目的是菲菲。

Feifei: Hello.

菲菲：大家好。

Neil: Feifei, if you don't mind me saying, you're looking a little... informal today.

尼尔：菲菲，如果你不介意我这么说的话，你今天的穿着看上去有点儿……不正式。

Feifei: Well it's true I wouldn't normally come to work in my beachwear but you did warn meabout the temperature.

菲菲：没错，我通常不会穿着沙滩服装来上班的，可是因为你提醒我气温很高。

Neil: The temperature? To be honest the temperature feels pretty normal in here todayand... well, no one else is wearing a bikini.

尼尔：气温？说实话，今天这里的温度还挺正常的……除了你，没有人穿比基尼。

Feifei: So why did you text me to say, 'Just to warn you, the heat is on'?

菲菲：那你为什么发短信跟我说，“提醒你一下，高温就要来了”？

Neil: Ahhh I see. I meant that we've got to record and publish the programme by midday –so we're under pressure to get it done. The expression 'the heat is on' is not actually connectedto the temperature... Sorry.

尼尔：啊，我明白了。我的意思是我们要在中午之前录制并发布这期节目，所以要完成这件事我们压力很大。the heat is on这个短语实际上和温度无关……抱歉。

Feifei: (embarrassed) Right. OK. Let's hear some examples while I wrap myself in a towel:

Feifei: So, 'the heat is on' is an expression you can use to describe a high-pressure situation.

菲菲：所以the heat is on这个表达方式可以用来形容高压情况。

Neil: Yes and the heat might really be on for you now, Feifei.

尼尔：对，菲菲，对你来说现在可能情况非常紧急。

Feifei: What do you mean?

菲菲：你是什么意思？

Neil: Well, swimwear is against the office dress code. Look out! Here come the BBC fashionpolice.

尼尔：泳装违反了办公室着装要求。小心！BBC的时尚警察来了。

Feifei: Quick – throw me my flip-flops and I'll run!

菲菲：快把我的人字托扔给我，我要跑了！

Neil: Off you go. Bye!
