Trials Began of New Registration Process for Electric Bikes
On April 9, the pilot program for electric two wheel vehicle registration began in parts of Bao'an District, Shenzhen.
Electric two wheel vehicles meeting the new national standard will be tested in the pilot and issued registration plates for long-term use. Electric two wheel vehicles not meeting to the national standard will be issued yellow transitional plates valid through December 31, 2021.
So is it ok to ride on the road once you register and receive your plates?
Unfortunately, the rules still remain the same and electric bikes are still prohibited from riding on major roads. Click here for a list of roads that are prohibited to ride on.
At present, this is still a pilot program and the owners who have been issued the registration plates still have to abide by the traffic rules, and are forbidden to drive on the restricted roads, especially the main roads of national highway 107 (Baoan section), Baoan Avenue and other urban arterial roads. Helmet use is also still required.
