New 469 km Urban Bicycle Network Proposed for Shenzhen

ShekouDaily 2020-08-18

The Shenzhen Municipal Transportation Bureau recently released the "Shenzhen Slow Traffic System Backbone Network Layout and Pilot Implementation Plan (Public Consultation Draft)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Public Consultation Draft") to solicit opinions and suggestions on the planning and construction of the urban bicycle backbone network. According to reports, Shenzhen plans to build a 469-kilometer slow-moving system backbone network, including 6 bicycle expressways and 12 main corridors.

The public consultation draft proposes that Shenzhen will build a slow traffic backbone network consisting of two levels of "bicycle expressways and main corridors" to further improve the bicycle lane classification system.

Among them, the bicycle expressway is dedicated to bicycles with independent rights of way. It passes through intersections with other roads in the form of an overpass. The function is positioned to commute between short and medium distances, leisure and fitness, and connection. The design speed standard is 20km/h.

The main corridor of the trunk line focuses on the demand for bicycles, while taking into account walking . Specifically, it will be set up in accordance with the current situation or planned roads, using guardrails, greening and other facilities to isolate.

According to the plan, the city plans a total of 6 independently built bicycle expressways and 12 main corridors to be reconstructed on both sides of the road, totaling 469 kilometers. At the same time, according to passenger demand and construction conditions, three backbone bicycle routes were selected as demonstrations, namely: Shekou to Liuxiandong bicycle expressway, Futian to Luohu bicycle expressway, and Kuiyong to Dapeng main corridor.

Planning goal: to open up the slow passage of Xili-Science Park-Houhai-Shekou, mainly to meet the commuting function, and take into account the leisure and fitness functions.

Line comparison

(1) Comparison and selection of overall routes

Option 1: Utilize the existing independent bicycle path of the Dasha River Ecological Corridor to connect the Liuxiandong Headquarters Base and Shekou Sea World. Status Quo. The function of the independent bicycle lane of the Dasha River Ecological Corridor is mainly for leisure and fitness. Compared with the high-speed bicycle lanes, the scale is insufficient and there is no room for expansion, which cannot meet the needs of future commuting passenger flow.

Option 2: Build a 6m wide two-way four-lane bicycle elevated, starting from Liuxiandong Headquarters Base in the north, passing Baishizhou, Nanshan Science and Technology Park, Shenzhen Bay Ecological Science and Technology Park, Houhai Headquarters Base, and ending at Shekou Sea World, with functions for commuting and fitness. Mainly, covering more residential areas, connecting office and residential areas with the main line, with strong service functions.

Considering the needs of commuter passenger flow, the overall plan recommends plan two.

(2) Detailed route comparison

Northern section plan: After various factors, the service function of line b is stronger, the construction conditions are good, and the coordination is less difficult, so this line is recommended.

Southern section plan: After various factors, the western route has stronger service functions, better construction conditions, and less coordination difficulty, so this route is recommended.

Detailed plan

The entire line adopts a 6m wide two-way 4-lane elevated, path along the green belt of the road, with a total length of 16.5 kilometers, a total of 9 nodes along the line, 11 conversion nodes with an average interval of 1.5 kilometers, 5 emergency centers, and 10 bicycle parking spots.

The layout plan of each line section and node is shown in the following table:

The deadline for this solicitation of opinions is 23:59 on August 21, 2020. Citizens can go to the official website of the Shenzhen Municipal Transportation Bureau to inquire about the details of the public consultation draft, and put forward suggestions and opinions on the planning plan through online messages, emails, letters, etc.
