诽谤大德也是舍法
SECTION 22. Disparaging a Great Master Is Also Forsaking the Dharma
如果造了舍法罪，一定没有解脱的机会，这是特别要谨慎的事。
If one commits the misdeed of forsaking the Dharma, one loses the opportunity of liberation, so we should be especially cautious.
那什么是舍法罪呢？
But what is the misdeed of forsaking the Dharma?
诽谤菩萨也是舍法罪。
First, it includes disparaging bodhisattvas.
我们完全不知道菩萨到底在哪儿，所以对谁都要慎重。
Since we have no idea where bodhisattvas are, we have to be careful to everyone.
出家人里有菩萨，在家人里也有，甚至动物群体中有没有菩萨，我们也不得而知。
Bodhisattvas could be monastics or laypeople, and we also cannot exclude the possibility of their existence as animals.
例如，从前，有一个人去五台山，文殊菩萨让他捎封信给达西，信中写道：
There is a story of a man who was about to visit Mount Wutai. Bodhisattva Manjushri asked him to take this note to the mahasattva Dashi:
“达西大菩萨：您以此身份利益众生已圆满，今当前往东方现喜刹土。”
The Mahasattva Dashi: You have finished your activity to benefit sentient beings with this body, now it’s time for you to head for the eastern Pure Land of Manifest Joy (Abhirata).”
那人到了成都一带的一个城镇，到处打听，根本没有叫达西的人。
When this man reached Thrintu, he could not find the whereabouts of Dashi from anyone.
最后有户人家说，他家有头猪叫达西，明天就准备杀了。
Finally a householder told him that his family was going to kill a pig and its name was Dashi.
那人心想不知道菩萨在哪儿，于是就把信放在那头猪面前。
That person thought, well, since the bodhisattva Dashi cannot be found, let me leave this letter with Dashi the pig.
那猪用嘴巴拱开信，看完就死了。
But when he put the note in front of the pig, it managed to open the letter with its snout and died immediately after glimpsing what was written.
这样的菩萨，在各种飞禽走兽中都有，
Bodhisattvas like this one can be found in various species of birds and beasts.
菩萨发愿时也念“愿成鸟兽城中乞”，
Bodhisattvas usually make aspirations such as “May I become a bird or a beast or a beggar in cities.”
还发愿转生为受赞叹者、被诋毁者、病人、说法者等。
Sometimes they also make the aspiration to become one who is praised, one who is denigrated, one who is sick, one who gives Dharma teachings, and so forth.
甚至在娼妓、屠夫里，也有许多菩萨。
And in some extreme cases bodhisattvas also wish to become prostitutes or butchers.
为此，严格地说，对一切众生都不能取恶名、说过失，
Therefore, strictly speaking, we should not give malicious names to or criticize any sentient being;
否则会成为舍法罪之因，很危险。
to do otherwise could cause the misdeed of forsaking the Dharma and is quite dangerous.
